Side effects of Mirapex include gambling?

Just saw a commercial for Mirapex (which is for restless leg syndrome). They say the drug may make you drowsy for fall asleep, and that you should notify your doctor if you feel gambling, sexual, or other intense urges?

Kinda a weird drug reaction. Some day they're going to give us a pill that has us all out robbing banks to cover our gambling losses!

If it's true, then they're already putting it in the water supply in Vegas...

True. Mirapex is a dopamine agonist (acts like dopamine in the brain). Cases of pathological gambling, hypersexuality, and compulsive eating (including binge eating) have been reported with all such medications.

Yep, a friend is taking a newer, very potent drug for a Parkinson's-like syndrome and the spouse has to help deal with those issues. On up side the tremors and rigidity are minimal so it's more good than bad.

Now call me twisted, but that 2nd urge on your list, I find a great side-benefit of that drug - a great over-ride to the 'not tonight, honey' :

Honey, you know what the doctor said the side effects of that drug i have been taking are...!! I'm sure you don't want me out there raping and what-not...?!!!?

Now to find a doc to prescribe me that...or at the least say he's prescribed it...

Better to say he prescribed it! Some of the other side effects aren't very nice at all.

BTW, restless leg syndrome, in case any of you have it, can also be caused by iron deficiency, and a lot of docs don't know that. Make sure you have your iron and ferritin levels checked first.

Whoa, did not know that! LOML does have all the symptoms of RLS (she refuses to get it confirmed or checked out by a doctor), and she's a chronic anemic. That's very good info - I shall make doubly sure she has her iron tablets before and during long flights (which are the biggest pain for her).

Somebody should campaign on a "free Mirapex for all the hotties" platform.

I'm there... I'm going on a personal mission to stamp out RLS in strip clubs in my lifetime...

Ah, but some may go the binge eating route rather than hypersexuality!

I factored in an attrition rate of 50%, just to be on the safe side...

(Now if I can just manage to wear out the other 50%... )

thats not as bad as some of the sleep aides

which have side effects of involuntary eating walking talking and sex

                        (ie. sleep sex and eating)

not sure if the benefits are worth the side effects

                        while I am on this

How stupid do you have to be to pop sleeping pills and go driving. The drug company's have to announce that drowziness is a sympton of their sleep medicines and remind people to stay away from heavy machinery. Sad. We all know that these things(rules) are made because someone did it before. Rant Off

don't know if anybody watches Jon Stewart , but he is doing a spoof on this subject on his show

                          calls RLS jiffy legs
"why can't they invent a drug to stop gambling that sometimes had a side effect of 'jiffy legs'" Jon Stewart

Crash they put in that warning to remind people to allow enough time for the drug to wear off before they operate machinery or drive. Some need 8 hours to get out of your system before its safe to do so.

Nothing worse than the wife deciding it is that time of year for me to get my annual allotment having taken an Ambien an hour earlier and forgetting the whole event!

Could you imagine a drug that helped you quit smoking, loose all desire for fat/sweet food instead craving fruits and veggies, no gambling side effect and an increase in sex drive? Hmmmm..... that could be a problem though for the world population!
