    Smoking a Pipe

Anybody here imbibe? We were going through some of our stored things this weekend and I found my pipes and some pretty funky tobacco. By natures I am not a complacent person - always fidgety but I learned early on with a pipe that you can't rush it. Smoke it too fast and it quickly tastes terrible. I might have to get some fresh 'baccy and reseason my pipes.

I still have a couple of pipes, but I haven't smoked them in probably 20 years. I used to love the smell of Middleton's Cherry tobacco, but I preferred Flying Dutchman tobacco.

I used to smoke a pipe frequently but then lost a $300 pipe at work and that was the end of that. I felt like a pet had died or something. I loved it almost as much as one.

That funky smelling tobacco.....is it the left-handed variety? hehe

I smoked a pipe in my early years for quite a while, trying to get off cigs. I had a convertible at the time and one day I was cruising the beach with the top down, wind blowin' my hair, sun out , checkin' out the hotties walking on the sidewalk. I had on one of those nylon speedo's, and just puffin' on my pipe lookin' cool.

I had the pipe in my mouth and turned to do some checkin', and the bowl hit the side pillar of the small vent window, and the burning contents dumped out in my lap.

Needless to say that ended my pipe smoking, and came close to ending my ability to reproduce.

I used to smoke a pipe, about 2 pounds of tobacco a month, and had a small collection. Don't remember what I did with them. Probably threw them out. At that time I also smoked cigars, about 15 a day. My nickname was "Cigar Ron." I started smoking cigars when I was kicking my 4 pack a day habit. I quit smoking in May of '88, cold turkey. Today I find all types of smoking repulsive. Regrettably, my two daughters smoke.

A dozen years or so ago I smoked a ppipe trying to get off the cigarettes. I burned my mouth raw and turned my teeth black.

              Pipes

I started pipe smoking about the time I joined the Navy - I was 17. I would smoke on and off - it sort of tapered off in the past 10 years or so. It's probably been a couple of years since my last smoke. My wife doesn't care for the smell (or my smoke-breath).

Of course, in the current nanny-state of things, smoking of any kind is a high crime. I know the risks, but prefer to make my own decisions. - Does anyone remember that stinker of a movie, Demolition Man? There was a line in there about how anything that was not good for you was bad, and thus illegal. (smoking, salt, spicy foods, etc.)

Maybe once the new shop is ready to move into, I'll christen in with some nice Balkan.

Tried smoking a corncob pipe while in college back in the Sixties. I wanted to be cool like one of my heroes, General MacArthur. It didn't last, too much work.

I have always attributed my not smoking to a real fear of death. My Dad told me that he'd kill me if he caught me smoking. I guess his threat worked.

I miss Dad every day of my life.

The only time I smoked a pipe, it wasn't with tobacco in the bowl.

Ah, the '60s were real good to me (sort of).

My dad smoked a pipe for five decades and I loved the smell. He used to smoke a champagne flavored tobacco, Borkum Riff. Tried it once when I was about 12 and never touched a pipe again. He quit at 70, about 15 years ago, when he and my mom joined the Peace Corps and he couldn't get decent tobacco in Africa.

He smoked cigars in the shop when didn't have time to futz with the pipe. I bet he still has a couple hundred Dutch Masters Panatella boxes in the garage filled with every conceivable screw, bolt, nail and small part.
