    What A Switch

There's a never ending plethora of newfangled devices that seemingly are supposed to make our lives easier, and advertised so that we don't think we can live without.

Well, Billy Mays is at it again with the "Handy Switch". I had to laugh at how they just stick the switch on the wall and get it perfectly straight. I'm wondering how many people will mount one of those on their dashboards.

I need that. It should work with stereos (too loud), TV (programs inappropriate for anyone under the age of 35), computers (excessive Facebook surfing), etc.? I may have to plug in every electronic device in the house and then carry one of these in my pocket.

Say, can you plug a mouthy teenager into one of the sockets??

Actually, I use some of these in my house and apartments. They work great and saves a lot of work by not having to dig into walls and do rewiring. Just yesterday, installed one in one of the rentals that we're revamping, for a new light (swag type) over an eating area that did not have good lighting. If using more than one in a house, make sure you get ones with different letters (A, B, C, etc) or one switch will turn on/off the other ones. They are available at the big box stores in various configurations.

yeah I saw that ad and how they just slapped it on the wall; I wonder how many are crooked in this country.

Did you ever see the universal TV remote control... only has one button, "off" but it transmits the power off code for every known make and model of TV when the button is pressed. Hate to be the one using it in a sports bar on Super bowl sunday!

I've used an on/off/dimmer like this, with remote control for many years. It works well in wall units and entertainment centers with lighting. There doesn't seem to be a need for a "direct line of sight" access from the remote to the actuator.

              Hey guys,

It's TV advertising, where anything is possible and usually not always honest.

I used to have one of those in my garage. I used it to turn on a light that was plugged in on the other side (no AC by the entry door) I worked great. It's nothing new - I had mine about 11 years ago.

You can buy one or build one (with better range from what I read) for the same cost. The editors of Make magazine got together with the originator and made a kit. We would be a more productive society if people used them, although, we really need them for the net as well.

As for the "light" switch, I would love to hook the receiver into some breaker box (I know it isn't rated for it, yada....), and put the switch in the strangest place, just to see peoples reactions. Kinda a candid camera moment.
