Did I kill my dvd player

I have a portable dvd player. I couldn't find the wall charger so I used the car (cigarette lighter) one. It worked when I initially tried it but after a while the screen turned gray. No video, but sound was still coming through. Later I realized the charger was for a different machine. I read the specs and the player was supposed to use a 9V 2A ac adaptor but I used a 10V 2A car charger. Did I totally fry the machine? I can't seem to find the manual anymore and I couldn't find any help online. The manufacturer doesn't seem to provide a manual online only the specs for it.

some wall adapter put out AC and some put out DC as well as being different voltages.

Also they can be different voltages.

Sometimes GASP, even though they have similar connectors, some crazy engineers I have seen use the center pin for plus and some for minus

    Sooooo, its hard to tell.
If they were both DC and had center pin positive, then 10V probably owuld not hurt a 9V machine.
Reversed polarity and it may have hurt the machine, depends on whether they spent 50 cents on reverse voltage protection.
AC input into a machine expecting DC, again it would depend on whther they spent a few cents on reverse voltage protection.

Try the correct adapter and if it works then you dodged a bullet. If not, then too bad...
