Ya know, we may laugh at the sight of such a ludicrous outlet overload. So, be a friend and watch out for similar poor safety in your friend's connections. Good call cab.man!
PS. Have any of you guys actually seen anything like this?
Looks bad, but that's not necessarily overloaded. You can't tell me by looking.
Sure its got a lot of plugs. Only one is a grounded three-wire, and its probably an extension cord.
But if I put a power strip on that outlet and plugged all 6 of those cords into the strip would you still tell me its overloaded?
It would look acceptable but you still could not tell me if it was overloaded.
Assume:
Clock - 10W
VCR -50W
DVD player - 50W
TV-100w
Xmas lights on the extension cord, 5 strings of 100 lights - 200W total
telephone & ans machine combo- 15W
Here we have a very ordinary home load, could be found in any home kitchen. totalling 325 watts.
A lot less than one BT3100 plugged in the garage on the same outlet with a shop vac. Which is overloaded, the kitchen outlet or the garage outlet?
But if I put a power strip on that outlet and plugged all 6 of those cords into the strip would you still tell me its overloaded?
Exactly watt (lol) I was thinking. We have a good solid 15 or so plugs plugged into each other in sequence for those Dept 56 houses. I think those bulbs are 5w.
While it may or may not be overloaded, the pic reminded me of "The Christmas Story".

Me too.
And I dunno about the overload. At the moment I have 3 strings of C-7 bulbs, 2 rope lights, and 120 of the miniature bulbs all on one outlet. They all do just fine.

The chief cause of failure in this life is giving up what you want most for what you want at the moment.
