    A Day Early....

but I would like to wish all the veterans on the forum who have served, who are serving and those who have loved ones who are serving this great country a .....

    HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Our family participated in a Veterans Parade today through out town, and then went to the local fire dept. for a lunch that they put on for the veterans and their families today. It is a very proud moment for me to see Mark and Richard (Boy Scouts), and Rebecca (Girl Scouts), all walking in the same parade as my dad and some other close friends that we know. We have made this event an annual family tradition, which I will gladly keep going for as long as I can.

Very well said, Melissa. We all too often don't think about all the sacrifices made.

Veterans Day is primarily to thank those who served our country. I'm moved to great gratitude for those living and those that lost their lives. It was an honor to serve our country.

I was watching a war documentary a while back. Not sure which battlefield it was as I started watching during the middle but there was a quote that will probably stay with me.

"The tree of Liberty is watered by the blood of patriots"

From someone who is very grateful for his Liberty, thanks to all the patriots here.

                        HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!!!!!!!!
                        Melissa,

All of us old war horses thank you for your thoughts, although, I'm not too sure that wishing for a Happy Day is really correct.

I know you're heart is in the correct place and wish that for all of us who served (and those who died) that "Happy"could be more aappropriate.

It's more of a day of reflection and rememberance, even if those memories are ones we could do without.

I'd like to thank all of you who served and those of you who didn't, but supported us in our choice to Protect & Serve.

I think this is a nice image from the VA.

Although the word "happy" may not sound quite right, Veteran's Day is a day for celebration to honor and celebrate our veterans. I also use this occasion to reflect and remember those that have died while serving but the day is really to celebrate. Memorial Day is the day to be somber, remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I find the best use of Veteran's day is to say "Thank You" out loud, not just in our thoughts, but verbally or at least in type, phone call or email. Even better is a handshake or hug along with the words "Thank You". Vet's need to hear it, we needn't forget that there was an unpopular war just a couple of decades ago and many many returning Vet's were treated as less then heroes, never thanked for their service, and still suffer from it.
