    Another $100.

Quite some time ago "Fine Woodworking" paid me $100 for the "Tim-Will-Lift", which I posted here in October last year. It was published in the June issue.
I sent them my idea for a benchlift(which I also posted here in October) in early August and lo and behold, the asked me to sign a release and sent me another $100. The don't know yet when it will be published but they'll let me know.
Niki should do the same thing with some of his ideas, you never know!
    More tool money1!!

        Congrats Tim! ... great job.

The only sad part is that check your getting isn't even worth $100 for us here (Cannucks) anymore ...

This probably isn't covered on the news south of the 49th ...

100 US Bucks would get you about 69.2 Eurodollars at interbank trade rates Thursday morning. You're off by at least a factor of 100.

            By the way, congratulations, Tim!

              I won't.
If you'll all sent me your copies of "Fine Woodworking", when it gets published, in a stamped self addressed envelope, I'll autograph it for you out, how's that.
Thanks for the kind words, gents!

As far as the value of the Canadian dollar vs. the American dollar; we're still seeing significant differences in prices of American goods here in Canada. I just checked again Home Depot. Home Depot Canada has a "tool event" going on right now. The TP1300 Ridgid Planer sels here for $499Can. For that value of purchase they'll give you a $75 store coupon, but the same planer in the USA is $349US(i.e. approx $332Can. at the present currency rate) Free shipping(not to Canada no doubt).

Congratulation Tim! It is nice to see good ideas get recognized.

BTW You only need 4 more published items to buy a Ridgid Planer.

Just three more, and - like a lot of people lately - forget the Canadian retailers and go to Buffalo.

Just saw the latest issue of the FWW (online), and found your tip.

Neat : concise, easy, and highly effective.

Congrats, and thanks for the tip!

I saw that also in my latest (print) copy of FWW. Oddly enough I saw it about two days after looking at the threads here when killing some time and going back through the archives...

I did have a question about it that I was wondering about...

I realize the original design is pretty slick in and of itself, but for some reason (aesthetics?) I wanted to find a way to not have the one set of casters on the outside of the bench legs. I might be able to sketch something up by hand and scan it and see if it makes sense to anyone but me (I'd try it in SketchUp! but that might take too long for me to get it looking the way I have it in my minds eye...)

Move the right half of the setup to the left.

If you plan it correctly you could put a shelf or cabinet between the right legs and the jack. The jack could be on the left half of the bench, the wheels on the right.

What I had in mind was something like that, moving that right side set of casters inside the legs, and making a tongue that would slide inside a box to keep the stuff aligned... have the jack mounted to the right side caster bracket, and pushing against a block mounted out on the spreader bar/ tongue like it is now...
