    Anyone use Registry Repair Software?

Started having 0x800CCC6A errors on Outlook Express 6 when sending emails about 1meg in size. Some of the sponsored links on Google are pushing Registry Repair software.

Has anyone used this software and had any luck with it?

    TIA

I've had Registry Mechanic from PC Tools for a while now. It was a free download when I got it. Don't know if it still is free. It does find and repair quite a few problems.

If there is a specific error in the registry that is preventing OE from sending larger attachments, then by all means use RegEdit to correct it. But using one of those tools that claims to fix problems you don't even know you're having equates to fixing what isn't broken.

google your error code 0x800CCC6A and Outlook Express.
its mentioned a lot and sounds like an SMTP error and not a registry error.

but none of the articles says what to do about it.

I've tried registry repair software twice and it caused more problems than it fixed. I either fix the error directly via Regedit or reinstalll the software to fix it.

I am not sure if it is a SMTP problem at this time. I am experiencing the problem on my desktop only. The laptop is working fine.

I did fine one link that indicated it could be a problem with port 25. Need to check that out tomorrow.

I did download one of the 'free' regedit applications and it found over 800 errors. Not sure how many were valid errors since I did a reformat and reloaded the o/s a few months ago.

As a last resort, guess I will have to find the time to sit on hold, waiting for tech support. Just switched over to Time Warner broadband a few months ago and this will be my first experience with them(except for cable TV).

Are you sure you haven't picked-up a [insert preferred term from: virus, spyware, adware, malware, etc.]? If something unwanted has inserted itself itself in your tcp/ip stack (and if you have XP), you could always try running this:

              http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm

But you'd want to make sure your machine is otherwise clean first.
