    Found a new home!

Spent 6 hours today with an agent looking at all kinds of places in and around Bastrop, Tx. Didn't fall in love with any of them. Went back to his office and upped what we were willing to pay -- BINGO! A nice home nestled in the "Lost Pines" section, just north of Lake Bastrop. A bit under 1 acre of flat land, big tall pines to the left, the right, and one in the front. Only 4 years old! No shop but plenty of room to build one. More than I wanted to pay at my age, but shoot - 30 year mortgage and let the beneficiaries worry about getting rid of it! And, after LOML fell in love with the jacuzzi bathtub, well, what can I say....

If you wanna, you can see it here:

Hope to close in 2-3 weeks, move in before Thanksgiving, and start my new job Dec. 1st.

    Wish us luck!

Good luck! That is a nice house. My wife keeps asking when I am going to put in a jacuzzi tub for her.

Nice place and property. Bastrop is a quiet town.

Make sure you aren't restricted by subdivision rules or deed restrictions on building a shop. I don't live with a HOA but there are deed restictions put in place by the developer. These last forever, too!

I'm jealous, Paul. That is a really nice looking place. I'm sending you a PM.

you're going to have a lot of ground to mow... almost an acre.
Should be room enough for a shop, just make sure as Pappy suggested, check the deed restrictions, maybe have a lawyer read them with a shop in mind if this shop is real important to you.

Excuse my abysmal ignorance, but, doesn't "horse facilities" translate into "shop convertible" or, does it mean something other than stable.

One of these days i'm gonna become a virtual employee at a job like mine, and live at a place like yours and telecommute. I could cut my mortgage down to 40% of what i have now - would give me some serious breathing space.

Despite being in the top 19% wage-earning households in the US, we live month-to-month, and we have determined our mortgage is the sole culprit...

Anyway, if wishes were horses...; but your home-to-be is really idyllic...

Checked out the deed restrictions. As long as I do not do a "commercial business,' no problem. And the deeds say "craftsman" and "artists" shops are OK.

                  Doc,

Great looking house! Bastrop is a real pretty area, the grass and trees in the picture are so green it makes my eyes hurt. Will be a great place for a shop and close to the best barbecue in the state!

That's a cool place. For that money you can get a spiffy mobile home on a cookie cutter lot around here. Some nice looking trees you got there...an ongoing lumber supply for your shop. Hey speaking of mobile homes, you could set up on the property a single, or even a double wide as a shop for a lot less than building one. Friend of mine has a double wide in San Antonio and says the price has dropped drastically on those. Some of the parks that people own their homes and pay rent on the lot, move their home to a lot they wind up buying because the prices have dropped. It's worth looking into.

Wow! That property would easily go for 3 -4 x that up here! Great deal!

Looks like you need to set up a Woodmizer!

That looks like a great spot!!

you can't buy 1680 sq-ft of dirt here for that price, let alone a house on an acre.
