Squirrels often lick the concrete when we're not outside. Anyone know why?
Why are squirrels licking my patio ?

Now THAT is a funny topic.
Maybe efflorescence? Does that happen with concrete?online at http://www.theFrankes.com

Maybe its like horses eating wooden posts or fencing. There might be something in the wood that he needs or something that is on the concrete.
Maybe somebody dropped some beer and it soaked in and the little critter is trying to have a drink before he grabs his nuts and runs.Mrs. Wallnut a.k.a (the head nut).Comment

I would figure the squirrel is either after the salt, or he's licking up any moisture that he can find, perhaps from the morning dew.
We have several squirrels that we feed quite regularly and I've learned to also put out water for them. The water was my wife's idea, as I have to admit I hadn't given that much thought. It's been a very dry summer here and the squirrels have been drinking the water quite regularly. I've got three "dishes" which are actually the bottom inch or so of 16-ounce water bottles. Those get filled at least twice a day. I've seen the squirrels ignore the corn or seed, and just stop by for a drink.
