I thought I had a shop cat, up until about two months ago. Then I found out she was coyote bait.

I've had one of my cats in the shop when I'm not making a lot of dust or noise. The other one is larger but a wimp when it comes to anything unfamiliar. Took him a week to come out from under the bed after we moved to a new home.

        shop cat

We had a siamese that would spend all day sleeping in our carport where I would run my tools. He wouldn't move a wisker when I ran any one of my machines. The only thing he did not like was my son's toys. If he was around playing with any of them the cat would take off faster than anything.

Tigger slipped into the garage (aka shop) once. Unknown to me, she also slipped into a tool storage cabinet. I shut the door with her in it. I have no idea how long she was trapped. I kept hearing a cat meow and thought there was a stray outside. When I was standing by the cabinet, I heard the meow again and finally realized the noise was coming from the cabinet. I opened it up and saw a gray tabby streak shoot back into the house. She has not set a paw into the shop again.

I have an 18 year old hermit cat that lives in the basement. We have tried to socialize him and he'll do fine for a while, and then decide to pee on the couch or more frequently, the dog's bed.

My shop is in the basement. I keep him out of the shop itself, but he'll hang out next to the open door while I run tools. But, if I turn on the shop-vac he is gone...

I am afraid he is well past the need for hearing protection. I think it is the air from the vacuum that freaks him out.
