    Was it a good buy?

There was an article in today's paper about a guy who bought a 1916 Model T Ford from a woman. He bought it in 1936, with the car already being 20 years old. He paid her $5.00 for it. He still has the car, and they showed a picture of him with it. He's now in his 80s. From the pic, the car looked nearly showroom quality. Wonder what it's worth now?

You think he'd take $10 for it? That would be 100% profit.

I'd say he probably loves the car more than he would be profit.

Not quite the same story that I saw, from the NY times 9-17-07.
        1929 model A purchased in 38.
If it is the same one, Body is in decent shape, interior is shot, but everyone likes the fact it's still original, and he gets told to keep it as such.

I don't find the whole article (now it wants a log in), but here is half of it with photo.

She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Who'd want it? I just read it's one of the 50 worst cars ever made, according to Time Mag.

Even so, Loring, I would still take an SSR or a Delorian. I wouldn't balk at a model T either.

Definitely not for a daily ride, but I guess as a collection item, conversation piece and plain show-off, many with the space and some extra dough would go great lengths in bidding wars to get such.

I was being facetious (and trying to make a humorous reference to the other thread)
Most of the cars on that list are collectors items in part because they are so quirky. I'd probably take any one of them for $10 without hesitation.
Well, except for the spontaneously self-immolating Ford SUVs (which could do a lot more than $10 worth of damage if they caught fire in my garage), but even then I guess I'd unplug the suspect circuitry.

OTOH, if having to drive it everyday was a criteria for getting it, I'd definately think twice about most of those cars.
