With a 10% coupon, you could have bought it at HF for $2.99.

Nope. It was me who missed something.

darn, the $9.99 air drill doesn't work right - the valve switch leaks a bit so it turns slowly when the switch is not pressed, you can hear the air leaking past the switch.

I got it to use to cut the pocket holes with the pocket hole jig since I use the cordless drill to set the screws; It's a pain to keep switching between the hex shank square driver and the 3/8" stepped drill bit.
the air drill turns at the right speed and has plenty of torque to drill the hole. Sounds really cool, too. The cordless drill has the clutch so I don't strip out the screw.

The defect rate is probably a marketing trick to generate return traffic to the store.

I have the little air drill Loring and it will drill holes all day long if needed. It won't install any screws though. Not one of it's intended uses of course, but drills good holes. I don't think it will work well in thick lumber with a bit any larger than 1/4". It will drill it, but may bind in the last of the hole with a 3/8" bit. Keep your new one drilling smaller holes and oil er up at least every other time you use it and it should last a long time. I did use mine in production for a couple years, but no longer need it the way my bench is set up.

Sounds like a shopping list for starting a VW repair shop.

Now I know why the store is always crowded when I go.
