    Bad news

    Hello again guys,
It seems I never post anymore, except when there is bad news to convey. Pressures at work and home have been intense lately, and I haven't taken the time to post anything.
So here goes. My Japanese Chin that I have had for 12 years had Renal difficulty, ie: failing kidney. This past Saturday evening she suddenly got very weak, and could hardly hold her head up. She could walk, but barely, at best.
To be concise, we felt it was best to have her euthanized-which we did. It hurt terribly, but we felt it was best for her.
I wouldn't bother you guys with stuff like this, but I know you all have warm, caring hearts, and I felt I could tell you and you would understand.
Thanks for letting me relieve some of my sorrow.
    Dave in NC

Sorry to hear of your loss, Dave. That's always difficult. You know you always have a place to post about things like this.

Dave, losing a family member isn't 'stuff like this' or a bother...it's a sad, sad thing to go through.

In some ways, it's harder when the family member is not a human because some people don't understand or value the loss, and we ourselves may have been conditioned to think we shouldn't hurt as much.

But we do, and it's hard, and there's not much anyone can say that makes us feel better. All we can do is treasure the good years and memories.

In our home, our cats are our only children, and I know too well the pain of losing a furry friend. I'll hold a good thought for you during these difficult first days.

                Dave,
I have not had pets for quite some time but I remember losing them and it is never easy. I am sorry for your loss.

Hi Dave, sorry to hear about this. I know exactly how you feel.

We lost our furry friend in February - after 17 years I still hear the little guy moving around the house.

                    Dave,

                    Sorry about your loss.
I could not believe how rough I took it when we had to have our little guys put down (two in the past two years). Still have one, Shadow, who is like my shadow...follows me wherever I go and it's going to kill me when his time is up. The wife wants a dog now too but I just can't give in. I get too attached.

This is certainly a feeling that most who share their lives with pets can understand. Remember that your pet trusts you to act in its best interests, and letting a pet suffer pain, fear, and unrecoverable sickness or injury is inhumane. You should be commended for acting nobly, even though your pain and grief are palpable. Trust me, the grief will fade and give way to all the great memories. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

So very sorry about your friend. We have been down that same road more times than I'd like to think about. I was a combat infantryman and have seen a lot, but there is NOTHING as difficult as bringing your pet to the vet for what you know is the last time. Give it a while, then get another dog - you'll both be thankful.

                          Cripes Dave,

You always seem to get the shi*ty end of the stick.

I've got 3 cats and one dog. The cats are getting on in years, and I'm not sure how I'll cope with their going to animal heaven.

In fact, one of my cats has an overactive thyroid, and none of the medications work. Right now, she's OK, but we just don't know for how long.

It's gonna be a bit*h putting her down, I'd rather cap a person.

Sorry to hear about the loss of a dear family member. I held my Shepherd in my arms when he was euthanized. I felt like I owed him that much. He laid his head on my arm... I'm so sorry for you. God bless.
