Aluminum Tubing Gloat, oh you don't care do you?

Well to those who don't care about aluminum tubing, and it's billions of uses ( exaggeration) TOUGH COOKIES!!

To those who do care, I just picked up 3 25' long pieces of Anodized aluminum tubing 7/8" OD ( 3/4" ID) for use in my flagpole project, for the amazingly low, low price of $20.50 after taxes

a single 1" OD 8' long piece of Al tubing at lowes is $18.

and the sweetest thing is that the 3/4" poplar dowel is a very snug fit into the "barrell" if you will

(must not think evil thoughts, must not think evil thoughts, must not get 3/4" dia marbels, a pnuematic dump valve, or a laser sight from a pistol, must not think evil thoughts)

and to top if off the aluminum has a beautiful anodized, chome like finish on it.

for the Charlotte Area folks, Foils in Harrisburg has that and lost of other stuff,

    Gloat off

A 75' flagpole is REALLY tall. I'd think you'd have some sort of ordinance against it being that tall.

Thanks for the information! I had been wondering about them when i was thinking i might need some metal for a project. Do you know if they carry other metals besides aluminum? They don't have any problems selling retail? Is it a drop in any time or a by appointment only sort of operation?

State flag, federal flag and what other flag?

I am assuming three poles, three flags.

Or maybe a tripod? Even a 25' pole is way too tall for 7/8" tubing carrying any kind of normal-sized flag, unless its guyed.

That was my reaction, for a 25' pole, 7/8" is way too small to carry a flag in any kind of wind.

Most flagpoles (like mine) I've seen are 1-3/4 to 2" dia. for 16 -18 ft.

Depending on what you need, McMaster carr shows up cheaper on some of the plastics I've looked at.

Thanks. I have US Plastics and McMaster-Carr bookmarked, but still looking for a local place, like the places you occasionally hear about someone stopping by on their lunch break and pulling out some great stuff out of their cut-off bin for next to nothing.

If, scratch that, when you go, make sure you wear shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a little mud/grease on. This is a Man's Man sorta place, scrap metal, mud, grease, little toxic looking puddles, heck, they even used to run an aluminum smelter in the back corner to sell ingots. This place makes me want to get the Dave-Gingery books and go to town...
