    Camping Trip

My GrandDaughters went tent camping with their Mother a couple of weeks ago, and loved it. We go camping also, but sleeping on the ground is hard on old bodies. But We bought a tent and other supplies.

We went to the same place the Mother took them too, so I guess they could compare experiences. We also took My Daughters' Daughters as She was still in Jamaica? on vacation. It wasn't too bad but 90 plus degrees is not weather to play outside in. They said that They liked it better with us, They felt safer. Bill

We used to(in our twenties) like to camp, had a tent, camp stove, sleeping bags, etc, then by the time we hit mid thirties our idea of roughing it was a motel with only a black and white TV. I guess now "roughing it" means a cabin where we have to do our own cooking

My wife will be gone most of the time between now and mid-August...backpacking. Mostly above 8,000 feet. She's leading a group up Mt. Whitney next month, where the peak is above 14,000 feet. She's 61 and has been doing this for 30-odd years.

I sometimes refer to her as the Dynamo. Maybe the Energizer Bunny is more appropriate. Hearing her schedule is exhausting!

I liked camping as a cub scout. Was even more interesting as a boy scout because the girl scout camp was across the lake. Then in the Army it turned into bivouac. Did my share of living under the stars.

I have an old (literally) Army buddy who has been a stock broker since serving and his idea of a summer vacation is going up to the West Virginia Mountains for a week or so with nothing but a knife. He keeps inviting me to go. Sounds like fun, but I would prefer a little less of a "trying" vacation.

You ever thought about an air mattress? I like camping but hate sleeping on the ground. air mattress made a world of difference.

Therm-A-Rests are lightweight and work very well. More for backpacking than camping, but I like them.

We also go tent camping but we make sure that we are near a comfort station. Now, some may sneer at us and say that we really are not camping, but in turn we sneer at the trailer campers( with their elactric lights and comfy beds ) and say that they really are not camping. But we do envy them when it rains!

Interesting thought though, my daughters take a portable DVD player, Game boys, and MP3 players.....and never pull them out of their bags for the whole trip.

I've got little kids, so I think there's probably a lot of camping in my future.

Ever since having spinal fusion, I don't like sleeping on the ground, either. I prefer a camping pad (one for each person in the tent) to an air mattress. But I'm still only good for a couple of nights, even on level ground.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I bought an inflatable queen size air mattress, it did help. I just had to roll off of it to get up. Bill

3 more weeks and I'll be heading for my annual retreat to Nowheresville, MD ... we do take campers, but there's no electric and running water is only available if we get our site near the creek.

This is our hot water for doing dishes:

                        the shower:

ah yes ... camping ... there's nothing else that I look more forward too!!!!
