in the news - celebrity spawn with drugs pulled over doing 105 in Hybrid

OK, lots of room for comments on this one...

All Gore III, yes, the son of the man who "initiated of the creation of the internet" , was pulled over in california for doing 105 in a Prius...

    1. Toyota spokesman said the Prius is limited to 103 for purposes of saving the battery juice
    2. the police said it was going downhill
    3. the officer smelled marijuana smoke coming from inside the car and searched the vehicle finding a small qty of pot and a number of controlled drugs, Xanax, Valium, Vicodan etc without a prescription.

The son of former Vice President Al Gore was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

California police pulled over Al Gore III, 24, for speeding.

Authorities said Gore was driving his Toyota Prius at about 100 miles per hour on the San Diego Freeway when he was pulled over at about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Deputies said they smelled marijuana and searched the car finding less than an ounce along with Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall.

Authorities said Gore did not have a prescription for any of the drugs they found in his possession.

Gore is being held in the...
    My thoughts:

How dumb can you be to drive 100+ while smoking weed?
    Wow, 100+ in a Prius!
What kind of green thinking has you doing 105 in a hybrid, doesn't that undo the purpose of driving a green car; the efficiency is probably reduced to lower than a regular car?
and What kind of respect does he have for his parents?

At the risk of getting a) political, and b) nitpicky:

Gore never said he invented the internet.

I imagine NHTSA investigators will reveal that smoking pot actually increases the green foot print of the Prius, enabling the car to go 105mph.

Maybe there should be a new HOV lane, the HCP (High combustion pot) lane. There can be a little symbol on the side of the car to indicate the occupants are doing their best to keep the country green, esepecially at high speed. Or slow speed after spacing out. Or high speed again after coming back to reality.

Well, the problem there is, the inclusion of this tired old chestnut in the OP means that things already ARE political. I'm sure Loring meant those words tongue-in-cheek, but that doesn't make them any less effective in keeping this bit of misinformation alive.

What Gore actually said -- read it here, if you wish -- was awkwardly phrased, less-than-fully explained, and certainly self-congratulatory, but he said it during a political campaign when such statements are hardly rare.

            More to the point:

A few weeks ago, Paris Hilton was running rough-shod over her family's good name. A few years ago, Bush's then-underage daughter was busted for alcohol possession. None of these stories would be newsworthy in the least were it not for the accident of birth that gave these people their surnames.

sorry all, I didn't mean to be political,
ONE - the comment about the internet was a sarcastic one I failed to indicate due to the widespread knowledge that some claimed that AGJr claimed to have invented it.
TWO - other than embaressing his parents (BTW AGJr claims not to be running for anything so he's no longer a political figure) and now a movie director and concert promoter my points were the celebrity status, not the political status of his parents.

So don't comment on the status of his parents. Just take this as a story about a man smoking pot and possesing drugs ilegally while doing 105 in a hybrid car. The 105 in a hybrid at least makes it newsworthy, if not the combination with drugs.

The Prius is governed at 104.

Not exactly impressive numbers, but similar to the V-8 family haulers I grew up with.

Some hybrids, like the Accord, are faster than their gasoline-only twins.

I guess my point is that it's a misconception that hybrids are underpowered.

I guess my Sarcast-O-Meter wasn't working. My apologies to all.

Agreed, the surname and the hybrid make this story newsworthy, unlike the other kajillion people pulled over for essentially the same type of offenses.

Wow things have changed since I was in college. Back then when you got high you drove REALLY SLOWLY while listening to the Grateful Dead or the Doors at ear-splitting volumes, as smoke gently billowed out the windows of your VW microbus. You actually took time to grok at the karma of your oneness with the universe. Not that I have any personal experience of course...

Maybe AG3's pot was laced with "Speed"?

                          OK, How about this one:
                          http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...e/4948006.html

11 Y.O. Girl arrested in Alabama. Not a Celeb kid but only 11. Drove the car over 100 mph during the chase (not a Prius) and tested over .02% blood alcohol levels, the level set for minors being legally intoxicated.

Apparently there's an intoxication level for minors... Who aren't supposed to drink at all. Comments from readers say its to allow use of alcohol-containing medicines (like Robitussin or Nyquil), I say maybe its because of the error limits of the testers... Might be +/-.01% which case a reading of .01 might result from a person really at zero%.

Or to the local all night convience store to get some "munchies" (and that happens in a lot of towns, even the little town we live in)

Loring, Mark and I saw that this morning on the news and also did you hear about the, I believe 5 year old who called 911 something like 300 times and asked for food or something like that. And also Mark was telling me that there was another child, can't remember the age who was bitten by a rabid fox, and to protect his family from being bitten held the fox down by the neck. Some amazing little kids out there these days, and some not so amazing.

                              Fake 911 calls story

CARPENTERSVILLE, Ill. - Authorities tracked down a 4-year-old girl who called 911 nearly 300 times last month by offering to deliver McDonald's to her suburban Chicago apartment.
Unbeknownst to her mother, the girl used a deactivated cell phone to call dispatchers 287 times in June _ sometimes as often as 20 times a shift.
Dispatchers heard the child's voice but could only track the phone's signal to the apartment complex.
So authorities used a ruse to pinpoint her.
"We asked (the caller) what she wanted. She said she wanted McDonald's," said Steve Cordes, executive director of QuadCom's emergency center, which covers Carpentersville.
"We talked with her and we convinced her if she told us where she lives, we would bring her McDonald's," he said. "She finally gave us her address. So we sent the police over _ with no McDonald's."
After police arrived, the girl's mother took away the phone, Cordes said.
Under federal law, deactivated cell phones still must be able to access 911. Many deactivated phones will contact an emergency call center if the user holds down the nine key.
