Been going on all day here, and this evening was quite the display. 360° fireworks, dangers of whiplash trying to watch everything going off.

Down here in the Houston area there are fireworks stands in just about every parking lot, heck a guy set up a stand in the middle of the road around the corner from us yesterday.

Wasn't as bad as new years though at my house though. I think moving to the new house helped as we don't have as many neighbors just yet (although by this time next year all the empty lots will be full I'm sure).

I had the same thought, fire up a saw or a router or pull out my brand new weedwacker early

Around here most are illegal but generally unless somebody complains the cops don't care.

I don't mind them one day out of the year, but I do think some people get carried away. It doesn't get dark here until around 10:00 so they always go kinda late.

In the city of Ellensburg fireworks are banned but in the county where we live you can light them off.

If I wouldn't of had to work last night then we probably would have went for a drive in the woods and found a good spot to sit and watch our valley with all the fireworks going on.

But since I had to work for a couple of hours as we still got our freight shipment, I took the kids with me and from the store I work at we were able to see the city fireworks display. Was very nice and the kids seemed to enjoy it. Then when that was over they helped me finish up putting things away and then we went home.

Mark also said that he and Thomas watched the fireworks from our living room and that they were able to see them, that tells you to never let a 19 month old take a late nap.

I don't mind the fireworks and when I asked Mark what the dogs did when things started going off he said they thought the kids and I were home and started doing their happy dance and whining bit.

The neighbor down the streetd whoose house caught fire from his illegal fireworks now has no house and is in Jail on felony charges of arson as he caused the roof on another house to catch fire also. His house is a total loss as it took a while for enough equipment to get there because of other calls. a number of neighbors complained about him and now he is going to pay the price for being stupid. His wife and oldest son were also arrested for interfering with an officer in the discharge of his duties. Fun night. didn't quiet down until after midnight.

How funny would it be if there was a fireworks forum and all they do is complain
about us woodworkers making noise with our routers and saws all day and
they all suggested July 4th was their chance for payback? OK, maybe not
that funny for some of you.

My dog hates thunder so I keep some meds on hand for stormy weather. I fixed him a cocktail yesterday and put him in his crate in the basement . He seems no worse for wear, perhaps a bit hung-over but he is not alone on that. We were worried about the fireworks and the dry weather. We got a shower last evening so it was no hold barred. A contest popped up between about five nearby subdivisions as to who could top this. We came in a distant second. A nearby neighborhood shot of multiple (at least 3 at a time) fireworks for an hour and fifteen minutes solid. They must have spent 3-4 thousand dollars. It was something to see.

Well, let's hope some justice gets put on that idiot. I don't envy the police on the 4th. There are just too many folks around us shooting off fireworks for the police to stop them so I think they don't bother until someone gets hurt or starts a fire.

Last year I was distracted by something and before I knew it the fireworks were going off and two of my dogs took off, never to be seen again. Felt really bad about that as I had planned to put them in the garage as usual on the 4th. Hurt my wife the most as she had bottle fed one of the dogs when it was abandoned at 4 weeks of age.

This year I got an early jump on the fireworks and had both dogs in the house before sundown.

Sounds like a net gain for the neighbors.

I had an image of him doing a public service announcement for some anti-fireworks group, like those ex-drug users who have lost everything.

Not trying to start a fight here, as it's clearly a sensitive issue for some, but here in Mississippi they are legal. We shot off about $30.00 last night around 8:30. Thirty bucks in Mississippi buys two shopping bags full of fairly nice fireworks. I understand from some of my contacts that they are much more expensive in Wisconsin and perhaps other states.

My four year old daughter was delighted, we've done it on the Fourth and New Years every year since she was about a year and a half old. My wife's uncle is mentally handicapped, he's in his 50's but operates on about an 8 year old level. He's a sweet guy and one of the things he enjoys is fireworks, so we're sure to get him some. We're very careful, keep a 5 gallon bucket of water to douse the spent casings and a hose on hand, although we've never had to use that. We blow them on a concrete driveway. I haven't heard any reports of fires or injuries in the small town I live in. I don't recall any fireworks disturbing me last night, I went to sleep around 10:30.

Well, I'm glad somebody could sleep cause I sure couldn't until around midnight which is way past my bedtime since some people have to get up early for work. Anyway I guess I shouldn't complain too much cause I sure enjoyed it when I was young. We shot them off and thought it just the most fun ever. Well not so much now. Thank God it's only a few times a year.

It is just to dangerious in CA for everyone to have big ones. People are to irresposible and being a very dry state, no rain after April, it has caused many wild fires. Like last night he burned his own house down. We have safe and sane fireworks which are fine but not bottle rockets, M80's and other flying type fireworks, there are plenty of freeshows around. My dog doesn't mind the safe and sane but when it starts sounding like Artilery practice then the problems start. We also have idiots firing the guns into the air. They are still at it tonight, must have some left overs.

Maybe celebrating the departure of the other neighbors...
