How bad are the local fireworks?

Our state idiots (politicians) decided to make fireworks legal to use on your own property. Of course, there were limits on the size of fireworks allowed. We have a German Shepherd who has never been affected by fireworks before. But this year, people seem to think they can set off what sound like, and feel like full sticks of dynamite. She's getting pretty upset by all the fireworks now, even those that never bothered her before. It has gotten to the point of crazyness. Some people might not know it, but I vote! How are they by your little corner of the world?

It am pretty sure it is illegal in Ohio also. I lost about two hours sleep last night because of a party and lots of fireworks next door.

I don't know the laws here, but it sounds like mortars and grenades are legal. I've got two very large German Shepherds that heel now like they just came out of training. They haven't left my side, and they both try to get into bed with us. We have a king size and believe me there is no room for them and three cats with claws. Its been pandemonium since yesterday. Sounds like a war zone.

Don't people have better things to spend money on? Like tools?

My dog has always been terrified of thunder (and it's hard to believe it took humans zillions of years to discover that thunder follows lightening, instead of vice versa--this dog has run inside after the first lightening, before the sound).

The 4th of July has always been a nightmare, too, except one year we were camping and a fellow camper gave him half a Xanax.

When we lived in Florida, New Years was just as bad--the idiotic gunfire celebrations carried across water.

It's still light here now, and a storm blew up an hour or two ago--don't know if it will kill the fireworks.

Fireworks have always been illegal here in NY State, except if you were John Gotti.

This year, its been fairly quiet in the neighborhood, except for the sanctioned town and local high school displays.

What really sucks is when there are practice sessions at West Point (about 15 mi away). Those 105's can sound really loud at 2AM. And to top it off, there's no incoming woosh to alert you.

I heard somewhere along the way that dogs have a unique sense of barometric changes and are extremely sensitive to impending storms. I don't know if this is true or not, but all of the German Shepherds I've had react early to storms, way before I hear or see anything.

That's OK, tomorrow about 6 am I'm going to open all the doors and windows on the shop and fire up a couple of saws.....

fireworks show?

Here in N.C. fireworks are illegal by private citizens too. But they do allow
special fireworks shows by pyrotechs with proper authorization and licenses
and such. We had a very good fireworks show that just ended in downtown
Charlotte a few minutes ago...from where my wife and I parked our car , we could see them being fired off from three different locations above the downtown skyline all at one time....it turned out to be pretty awesome
way to celebrate the 4th of July after all. eezlock

That's probably true, and also their hearing is exponentially better than ours, particularly the breeds with stand-up ears.

Mine is a Samoyed, and being the tallest things out on the tundra, it was only sensible for them to be scared of lightening. He seems to be aware of storms, thunder, and fireworks way before humans--but we've almost always lived within a few blocks of various bays, which probably greatly increases the distance from which those sounds are audible to him.

I know this is a little late but right now here in Michigan a state where fireworks are not legal. It sounds like a battlezone in my neighborhood. Law enforcement in MI has a hands off approach to fireworks around the 4th of July. Light off a huge amount any other time of the year and the brothers in blue will come knocking at your door.

That sounds like a good idea! How can I make the routers as noisy as possible? I might have to drag a PA system out to the shop for a little "enhancement."

My neighbors have been at it continuously for the last week. I hope they run out soon.

Man these guys with all the fireworks must be making bank!! Fireworks (at least around here) are freaking expensive. It's been a while but I think a small pack of sparklers cost like $7. Can't imagine what the elaborate ones cost.

Sounds and looks like WWIII out there right now and we are supposed to have safe an sane, ya right. Gave the dog a valium the Vet gave and he is nice and quiet. Never had a problem with him before but this year he has some serious health issues and Vet wanted to keep him quiet so he doesn't injure himself running and barking. Happy Birthday to US


10pm a house down the street with a shake roof just caught fire from illegal fireworks. The poetic justice is they were the ones setting them off.
