    Son-in-law joins the family!

WOW... that really makes me feel old... I now have a son-in-law!!!

I got my oldest daughter married off to a fine young man this past Friday evening down in Nashville TN. The wedding was beautiful. My new son-in-law is a Major in the Marines and 7 of the 8 groomsmen are Majors or Colonels in the either the Marines or Navy. They all wore their dress uniforms and looked brilliant. My daughter looked like a princess in her wedding dress and Scarritt-Bennett proved to be a wonderful location for the wedding. I had never seen a "sword arch" in person before and was quite impressed as my daughter and son-in-law emerged through it.

I was able to hold it all together until the "daddy-daughter" dance at the reception held atop the Sheraton in downtown Nashville. They played "Butterfly Kisses" and I lost it like a blubbering fool. Oh well... at least I made it that far.

On the down side. My new son-in-law is training to fly the Cobra hellicopter and has to be back in California today to continue his training. Then he is supposed to head out to Iraq in September or October for 6 months. Not the best of situations in which to start a marriage... but life doesn't work out the way we want it to sometimes.

Anyway... I'm quite proud of my daughter and my new son-in-law... my wife and I think he's a wonderful addition to our family.

While I'm at it... thanks to all of you that have served or are currently serving in our armed forces! The sacrifice you make for the rest of us is greatly appreciated!
Happy to have all 9 1/2 fingers!

Congratulations on your new status! Please post some pics of the ceremony, particularly of the couple with the groomsmen.

And yes, please convey our appreciation for his dedication to his duty despite his personal situation.

Congratulations to you and the new couple! Did she get the traditional welcome to the Corps at the end of the arch? If so, did she know it was coming?

Congrats, but you know what they say--no pics, didn't happen!

Pappy, I'm curious--just what is the traditional welcome to the Corps?

Never served myself--too many issues with authority. I'd STILL be doing pushups.

I guess I'd better get some pics up to prove it happened!!!

                    Some answers as well.

My new SIL is not a woodworker... YET!

She did recieve TWO welcomes at the end of the arch... not sure which was the traditional welcome... first the Marine on one side dropped his soard and did not allow them to pass until they kissed and then her new brother-in-law (on the other side) smacked her on the backside with the flat of his soard after she passed bye. I'm guessing the traditional welcome is dropping the soard and not allowing them to pass until they kiss?!?!?

I'd try to describe which one is my new SIL... but saying "the guy in the Marine uniform" won't help out much. The picture of the old guy with the babe in the blue dress and the two young girls is me with my wife and two youngest daughters. There's also a picture of my three "little" girls together. I'm not a proud poppa or anything!!!

Thanks for the kind replies -

                        Beautiful pictures. Beautiful family.

Don't know if this phrase will ever be useful, but sometimes my late mother used to describe one of my sisters' husbands, a Marine major, as her "son-in-law, the trained killer."
