Give woodworking up...for a million bucks?

When I first read it, I thought 'crazy'...:

Swap my mobile phone for a million pounds? No way!

The survey showed youngsters wanted mobile-phones more than the million bucks. Me, I'd take the money and shove the phone off. There still are pay phones around...

But then I realized somebody might ask me, how about the same for your woodworking...? Somehow that equation did not strike right. The only reason I might want such a largesse is to get a larger shop...

So do you think you'd take that million bucks?

My first "passion" or "addiction" is pottery, 2nd is woodworking. For a million dollars, I would give up woodworking and focus on pottery.

It is a bit hard to do both at the same time, so pottery is in a bit of a hiatus.

My answer is YUP. After 37 years of woodworking mostly 6 days a week, the money sounds real good.

You bet I'd take the million bucks, for two reasons:

          1. Woodworking for me is a serious hobby that I hope to parlay into some additional income to augment whatever I have for my retirement. But since the million would largely negate that need, and since woodworking is JUST a hobby, I'd definitely be willing to walk away from it in order to reap the big-picture gains.

          2. I have a LOT of interests, many of them either incompletely enjoyed or totally unexplored. I'd have no trouble finding something else that would both occupy my time and give me the same kind of satisfaction that woodworking does.

I take the million in a heartbeat. I have lots of other interests that could occupy my time.

Woodworking is a hobby that occupies my free time. Granted, it is rewarding and fun. But travelling the world would be just as fun and rewarding

                      Nope.

Woodworking is both a creative outlet and most importantly a Stress release for me. $1m ain't worth the loss of those.

My sentiments exactly. I used to have tremendous mental stress before I took up WW ; ever since, when I get into one of those situations, I reassure myself - 'tonight I gonna sand and finish those chair-slats' or something like that.... If I give that up, the money would only see me get depressed.

But we are in a minority - looks like very few would forego the $$ for WW...only one other than us as yet...

[ Of course, I would be more than glad to give up my day job, and wouldn't even ask for the million. Just enough to cover the mortgage would be good. Have been in and around computers for so long that I am happy to be on vacations where I don't have access to any machines... ]

I practically have given up woodworking in the last few months since outdoor work is taking much of my time.

Soooo, where can I pick up my million $$?

(I may have to give it back in the fall, though....)

                          Regards,

Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! -Rocky Balboa-
