If you use a postage meter

If you or your company use a Postage Meter (typically Pitney Bowes), make certain you are getting the best rates available.

We have had a meter for about ten years. Never really watched the bills for it. We received an offer from Stamps.com which caused me to investigate what we were paying for our PB meter and what options were available.

The bottom line is, we were paying $48/month for a meter that new customers are offered for $18/month. I called them and they adjusted the price down to $13/month.

$25 pays for quite a bit of postage.

I find their pricing games troublesome, too. You can save all your MBA crap for discussion groups, but new customers should never receive a product for less than half what existing customers are paying. So I'm going to continue investigating other options.

    thats true of all services...
cell phones in particular are the worst,
    also internet service providers, etc
    insurance

sometimes they set a price and thats what you continue to pay
even if they sell new service for much less.
periodically call and ask (esp. if you hear of a deal, even introductory, on the radio or from a friend) if there is a better price (tell them your shopping around).

Our office switch to Stamps.com in November as a result of the postage meters going digital and a subtenet moving out (they used postage alot more than us). I like the fact that we don't have to be concerned with what the technology of the meters does.

We didn't feel the need, given our monthly postage usage, to buy a new piece of equipment when we had everything in house already to make the switch.

I agree, but I feel the difference (nearly 3:1 in this case) was outrageous.

That was a big difference. I have gotten cheaper rates from cable, telephone and others but the rates were never almost 3:1.

We were in the process of switching to stamps.com due to the cost savings. We found stamps.com to be difficult to use to print on envelopes and problems with label printing etc. The Pitney Bowes meter was much easier. When we were calling PB to pull the plug they pulled out their competitive price and we then decided to stay. We found it much easier to stick the envelope in the meter. Even if the PB rates didn't change I think we would have wound up sticking with PB ultimately. My admin was on with stamps.com tech support way too much for the lower cost to be cost effective.

Right. And the 3:1 I'm quoting is their advertised rate versus what they werre charging me. The final rate they gave me is actually over 3:6:1 ($13/month versus $47.50/month).
