My summer is going to be all about the shop furniture. I have designed and will start cutting tonight the torsion box for a workbench that will have my mini wood lathe and extension on one side and 7x12 metal lathe and mini-mill on the other. Drawers on each side with each go half depth. I will either have a removable opaque barrier, like MDF, or a thick clear plastic to partition the sides. Mainly to protect the metal working equipment from flying wood cuts and possible loss of something being turned.

Next, I want to make a flip top for the Planner and another tool, possibly the mortiser.

Then, insulate and drywall the far wall, so I can do shelves of cabinets.

I'm sure I won't get there, because I'll be making a new plane with my metal working tools or something. I'm easily distracted.

Four major projects on the list.

        1. Strip roof and reroof with steel.

        2. 12 x 16 Pony Barn for garden shed.

        3. Pour 24' x 26' 8" slab and erect new shop building!

        4. Remodel end bath.

It's gonna be a long summer. There is also discussion of replacing the carpet with laminate flooring.

Replace 2 main beams under my house. In a crawlspace. One of the beams is sagging about 1 1/2 inches the other about 3/4 of an inch. This sagging is between the main support columns. Should be interesting as I will be doing it myself. Lot's of hydrolic jacks and heavy duty jack stands. Will have to cut 2 plus inches off the top of the existing support columns (thank god they are brick) to fit the correct size gluelam beams. Will be replacing old 2x12 multiplank beam and one 6x6 beam. May even have to pour a new support column or 2. I may contract out the new support columns as they have to be dug 42 inches deep. Have to have a structural engineer aprove my plan before I can get a permit though. Will cost many thousands less doing it myself. (like 15000 + less). Safety is my prime concern on this. Need to learn Sketchup to draw plan out as well. I think this one project is far and away enough to take up an entire summer and then some as I can only raise the structure 1/8 of an inch or so every 4 to 7 days.

Number one on the hit parade is a 12'x12' shed in the back yard. I've got the floor installed and anchored, the walls framed up and the first rafter done. I'm doing all the pre-fab before erecting anything. After the shed is built, all the lawn care stuff in my "shop" will moved and the shop put back together.

In the mean time, I'm also working on my first scale helicopter. I got the navigation/anti-collision/landing lights installed over the weekend.

Other projects will be whatever LOML wants them to be!

Just got the yard done and now I have got to paint the outside of the house. It is always something to do.

Even just looking at the list is somewhat depressing...

                  Replace a failing retaining wall
                  replace the garage windows
                  paint the garage
turn the garage into my workshop (if I get it wired, will hire an electrician for that)
dig a large garden on the other side of the front of the house (no more front lawn to mow! it's a small town lot)
replace the fence I built from bamboo last year which didn't last well. will do a picket fence this time
finish the kitchen remodel. I still need to grout the time backsplashes, caulk assorted places, built a silverware organizer tray, and a couple small, freestanding cabinets. Plus a few small molding projects.
finishe the trim and build doors for a CD cabinet I built into a closed off doorway (pics soon, I hope)
build the extension to the desk that I built last July
plus whatever else LOML throws my way, I suppose.

the good thing is that not everything on the list absolutly must be done this summer. which is good, because we're going away to visit my sister in law in China in July.

Oh, and for the spring i already built and installed a bat house (pics soon) and have been working on the kitchen.

I've been bad and haven't gotten anything in finished projects for some time...

                  Jim

Wow; some of you guys need summer to last 12 months to clear up those lists. Makes me feel good about mine.

                    1. Pressure wash house, fence, deck, driveway & sidewalk.

                    2. Install lattice under deck.

                    3. Stain (natural cedar) deck floor, support posts & lattice. Paint rails white.

                    4. Stain Fence.

                    5. Build flower beds for LOML.

                    6. Take down a couple trees and level off stumps.

I've accomplished alot already this year off my list so my summer isn't looking too bad. I plan on brushing/rolling stain on the fence/deck to avoid waste with sprayer.
                    What's her's is her's and what's mine is her's!

This summer's projects, in no particular order.

                      1) Build Mahogany coffee table (dimensioned from rough last fall)
                      2) Rebuild right-side workbench in garage
                      3) Sort garage "junk" for garage sale
                      4) CMS station for my newly LU85R010'ed CMS
                      5) Install ornamental iron fence in front yard

All subject to change at the whim of SWMBO.

WOW!! You guys made me tired reading the lists!!

This is what I should do.

1 Build a retain wall and terrace the hill behind the house.

2 Remove old half dead shrubs on one side of the house and plant grass.

3 Trim front bushes way back.

4 replace facia and install new gutters.

                          5. Have two large old pine trees removed ( Looking at the 14-16 inch trunks
and thinking of some pine stock).

                          6. Rebuild an outside stairwell that is caving in.

NOW for what I will really do… LOML and I love to ride bikes and go one weekend trips to ride some of the rails to trail paths in Ohio, PA, WV, NY and Canada. If the weather is nice we are riding. If the weather is bad and we can’t ride, then I can’t get any of the above outside projects done.

Oh well… It’s the same list as last year… and if this thread comes up next year.. I can copy and paste!
                          Cut twice.... measure??

Kirbyfing the garage, could take you out of ANY other projects, with the time it takes to vaporize all that dust.
