I had never heard of aspartame (Nutrisweet) until last week. I hear it works well. Some boric acid mixed with honey will work also. Put some little dabs of it in their pathway. I use a product called Gourmet Ant Gel

It is things like this that really make me consider what we put in our bodies. I don't drink any artificial sweetener, just sugar, honey and stevia. It is the same thing with Margarine and Butter. Put a stick of both outside and notice that no animal touches the margarine, but the butter is gone. They know more than we do.

I was really just kidding about the aspartame.
I figured it would just be ignored but the joke was supposed to be that its an anti-sugar.
Maybe you'd attract aspartame ants instead of sugar ants.

1 cup water, 2 cups sugar, 2 tablespoons boric acid. Put little drops or dribbles wherever you've seen their trails (they often follow each other like a line). And keep away from kids / pets! DO NOT kill the foragers you see eating the bait! "Sugar ants" and Pharoah ants (aka sugar ants) MUST return to the nest or the queen will move it! Let them carry the bait back home to kill the nest!

Got the above from a friend who works for Terminex when we had Pharoah ants in the bathroom. One treatment - no ants!

And DO NOT add more boric acid hoping for a quick kill! The foragers might well die before getting back to the nest.

Napalm, or if you don't have any extra laying around, Sterno works almost as good.
