    I've go to

start on My State and Federal taxes. I don't know why I put it off each year,

but I do. And the stupid part is because of the GrandDaughters, I get a

refund. I have it all gathered up, using Turbo Tax should not take too long.

My rule of thumb for doing taxes is to do them around Feb 1, just after all the W2s and 1099s have arrived I use Turbo Tax so it's easy and fast. Then, if I'm getting a refund I e-file to get the money as soon as possible. OTH, if I owe (which I do this year) I file a paper report along with my check on the last day

I just did mine Friday. I'm getting back $50.00 from the state, and $40.00 from the feds. That should get us a dinner out, and maybe a router bit.

Did mine 3 days before Christmas. Then went and paid the Personal and Real taxes. It sucked having to wait till the Jan. 31 to get the W2. And I was only $2 off on my guess of the final bank interest.

Now is the bad part, I am thinking of spending it on a laptop, like I need ANOTHER pc (no laptops, just desktops/servers).

I already got my returns. Kinda silly to procrastinate when you got 11+ grand going your way...

Don't think you can get much of a computer for $2

If this is not a one-time thing then you are withholding way too much. The gov't is getting an interest-free loan of your 11k. You need to adjust your W4. Ideally you you pay 0 and get back 0. Next best thing is you owe a small amount. After that, owe whatever you can afford to pay each year. This way, you get the interest free loan of the gov'ts money. Think how many tools you could buy with that 11k, or what you could get investing it.

As far as filing an extension, if you owe taxes you can file the extension but you still need to pay the taxes in April. Otherwise you get hit with interest and penalties.
