    Non-contact electrical tester

Anyone have one of these that they found have worked well. It would be great if it would work through walls as well as at the outlets, switches, etc. I know someone posted about one they had but for the life of me I can't find it. I got one today at HD but it didn't work very well.

I've got a greenlee one I picked up at the BORG a few years back about the size of a marker. It works well and I've never had any problems with it.

I don't know of any that are sensitive enough to work thru walls though. What's the problem with yours?

I bought one at Harbor Freight that worked great. It won't work thru walls nad I wouldn't want it to. It needs to be in close proximty to the wire. Sometimes in old wiring I use it to tell the hot from the neutral.

I saw that one but got the lower priced Sperry brand as the HD guy said they were pretty much the same. I was testing it out on various switches and outlets and on some it would detect them but wouldn't on most.

I've had one for over 10 years I got at Radio Shack.
Like the size of a big marker with a pocket clip and an LED.
Detects wiring thru walls and helps identify live wires when working on wiring.

sorry, it has no part number, Radio shack stuff changes quite frequently anyway. I've had it for more than ten years.
I know some of the Zircon higher end studfinders also have this kind of circuit built in for detecting wiring. Like this one:

I bought a romex wire stripper/non contact sensor, that will pick up current through the walls.

It was from home depot and about 24.00. i cant think what the name is, I always seem them in the electrical aisle.

It has an on/off switch, and since i need the strippers when doing most work, that means i can turn them on and know i am safe.

I'll have to look at the brand name when i get home.
