    Death of a Ferrari

Some joker (Eddie Griffin) piled this beautiful $1.5M Ferrari Enzo into a wall at a charity race in Ca. Kinda makes you cry a little.

My 15.5 year old daughter is a car nut and loves movies with fast cars...(Gone In 60 Seconds, All of the Fast and the Furious). She is highly anticipating the release of a new movie called "Red Line". The crash that Loring is referring to was at a promotion for this movie. She almost cried when she saw this on the news last night.

It was all over the news last night.

But only one channel showed him in a little more depth, they showed him joking "the brother can't drive" (yes a quote), and then getting his picture taken with his foot on what was left of it, with a big smile.

I changed the channel and that 70's show was on, and caught it just as Red Foreman said: "That Dumb***"

      Couldn't top that!

I was on a fixed course once, and was given the opportunity to drive a true race car. But the course was fixed, and your not supposed to go past a certain limit in speed, to keep you in their coned area. It looks to me like he was goofing off trying to go faster. I do hope he at least out of pockets the deductable, and diminshed value!
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

It does make you cry a little. It's an honorable crash, though, IMO. He's driving a fast car fast on a closed course. Way better than getting creamed by a garbage while trolling for chicks on the blvd.

Maybe the owner who let him drive it.

Yah I heard the owner, who was some producer, did let him drive it. They were talking about it on the radio this morning and saying the story is a little fishy. The owner or driver didn't even seem upset. I know if I wrecked a 1.5 mil car I'd be a little shakey. Maybe it was a stupid publicity stunt for a movie called redline that is coming out.

                      1) I think the producer got $2M publicity for the movie, Redline which otherwise I'd not even have heard about.
                      2) I'm sure he can write it off.
                      3) He probably had it insured for $1.5M but on the market it might have only fetched $1.3M or less. He'll claim the full value. And they said he has a lot of other cars.

the problem is that since only 400 were made, replacements are few and far between, and since there are now 399 or fewer in mint condition, the value just went up thanks to this moron.

FWIW, they were talking about this on the radio here in Columbus this morning. They were saying that this was actually a publicity stunt, the car was actually a modified Toyota custom built just for this reason. The body is aftermarket fiberglass with original emblems and such to make it appear as an Enzo. The guy talking on the radio say it was basically a $75K clone.

if that was a fugazzi, it was a good job

yeah, body pods and scoops are easy enough to fake, but the fit and finish of the windshield and other windows suggests no fake, or a very, very good fake. Plus, the mount the engine in the rear and get the thing to drive even half-well is not the easiest thing to do. I guess the 150K to get it done is still peanuts for the publicity, but I doubt a fugazzi.

What's more puzzling is this enzo getting wrecked and then another just 2 weeks earlier on PCH by that swedish gamemaker stefan something or another. That crash was a bit of a mystery cuz police found a 9mm auto magazine nearby and the owner also reported his benz slr stolen the week earlier.

Only 400 built, but 2 wrecked in 2 weeks in California. People really need to learn to respect a fine piece of machinery better. I vote Kirby gets all enzo's for safe keeping, which of course he can "lend" to members of this board!
