Hearing Aids (Crossovers...)

I am 33 and have been completely deaf in my right ear my whole life. I use to have a Crossover hearing aid that picked up sound from my right ear and transmitted it to my good ear. It was not digital and the quality was terrible.

I am about to go in for another hearing evaluation and check some digital ones. My prior ones were behind the ear on both sides. The new ones will be behind the ear on the deaf side and in the ear for the good side.

Does anybody here have experience with crossover hearing aids, or at least had experience with digital hearing aids?

I have Phonak digital in both ears that I got at the VA. I love them, I never have to adjust the volume, they are set on 4 which is automatic adjust, of course I can adjust them, but haven't felt it necessary. I won't be wearing them at Bristol this weekend. Bill

I have Oticon DigiFocus II. They are 100% Digital. They are BTE, but not crossover. First had analog ones years ago, never really liked them. Didn't wear them that often. There are several channels, think stereo equalizer. So they can adjust the volumes in each channel. Boy does it help bring out the voices.

I'll be at Bristol this weekend also. I take them off at the track, and wear a scanner head set that cut down on the outside noise. It's loud there!!!!

How well do the digital ones filter out unwanted noise?

I am a CAT Scan Technologist, and my old analog hearing aids picked up a terrible frequency from the CT machine.

If your talking unwanted noise light fluorescent light bulb, and other power related noise then mine are GREAT. The only time I pick up power related noise is when I accidentally have them in TeleCoil mode (For use on a phone). When in that mode I will pick up (when close enough) power lines in walls, demagnetizers at checkouts, florescent lights, etc.

I work at laboratory we have various test equipment that throws off some high power / frequencies. One room will block any wireless phone signal, not when just in that room but if the room is anywhere between the base and handset. Someone with a pace maker is not suppose to go in there. The doctor thought I might get some stray noise in there. Got NONE!!!

Oh and my set is about 5 years old. They have better newer ones out now!!

Telephones are another reason I hateed my other ones. What is Telecoil?

Telecoil mode allows you to hear on a phone. All phones (OK there probably an exception somewhere) will give off a small magnetic field. The hearing aid will pick this up, so you can hear the person on the phone.

Mine can be set to TeleCoil mode only, TeleCoil AND normal hearing aid, or normal hearing aid only. When in TeleCoil mode only, there is no feed back, since the outside sound is not being amplified. I only use my TeleCoil mode in rare cases. I like taking my hearing aid off and using th volume control on the phone (all my phones have one).

We don't have special parking, we park about 1/2 - 1 mile away on some side street. That looks like some nice parking. Not sure what time we will head to the track, it varies every year. How long will you be in that area?
