    Happy Pi Day!

You can celebrate twice at 30 seconds before 2!

Good reminder. Nice day for going around in circles.

edit : I see that it is already confusing people : the value of the pi ( π ), which is the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter, is a universal constant = 3.14159 26535 (and on and on) and David caught onto today's date (and time at 1:59).

Hooray! It's been over a month since e-day, and I missed sqrt(2) day because I had far too much to drink a few days earlier!

Next up? Feigenbaum Constant-sub-one day! Any this year it happens to be on Good Friday!!

I wrote a geeky little web application a while ago that allows you to input a message, font, size and color, and it will generate an image of that message written out with digits of pi. Let me know what you think!

Here's an example of my son's name using the first 10,373 digits of pi.

That reminds me of a clear fact that studies have shown that a human hand opened wide will always measure less than 12" from the tip of the thumb to the end of the pinkie, because...

            Phi

Well as woodworkers and master designers all, it's a pity that there's no Phi day. Maybe January 6th at 6:00pm (1800 for military folk)?

              David,

In California, the Penal Code section for indecent exposure [or weenie wagging], is 314. Much better celebrations than for Pi.

Uh... and just how is it that you happen to know this, David?

                  Pie story

I remember a few years back, I worked for a company making high tech products. Me and another engineer there were recruited by a competitor and both decided to go, independently of each other, the same day.

When we started the same day at the new company, they gave us a tour and said, oh, by the way the combination code for the doors is 314, like Pi. I turned and gave a sly grin to the other engineer, because we shared a secret - the combination at the new place was exactly the same as the one at our previous employer and competitor!

They were talking about it on the news tonight. There was a guy who remembered 100,000 numerals! I think he was from Japan. The only thing I remembered was 3.1416, and that's not exactly right. But close enough for me.
