I know how ATSC works and all about the resolutions.
I just want to know if my cable company is going to support it or if not, then what?
    Apparently they don't know.

Actually, the resolutions are not a problem. The TVs all support receiving all of the resolutions (and are required to). Yes, not all are the best quality on all TVs, but that's from scaling them to fit. One resolution would be easier. But no matter what, SD would be kept. It's there so that stations can transmit multiple feeds (extra shows).

The real problem is changing standards (broadcast flag, anyone?) and the fact that cable and satellite have different non-standards.

Of course, I agree completely about the companies ruling the government, but don't want to go down that path, it's off topic and starts getting into politics.
