That's funny I just got done reading about that on Foxnews.com. Seems like a wonderful idea if they can harness the healing power. Lukily I did not lose any of my finger! Yet it is scarred and still tender.

Planaria

My daughter, a high school sophomore, has an internship at a local biotech company that is investigating how planaria manage to do this regeneration trick. You can cut a 1/4" planarian into as many as 275 pieces, and each of them will develop into a complete animal. They can also reduce their volume and weight by 95% under starvation conditions in order to survive.

Lucky for us, evolution has provided us with many of the same genes as these more "primitive" critters, and therefore the possibility exists for us to take advantage of the same mechanisms.
