    No one noticed!

    http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=64997

HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. (AP) - The partially mummified body of a man dead for more than a year has been found in a chair in front of his television, which was still on, authorities said.

Vincenzo Ricardo, 70, apparently died of natural causes, said Dr. Stuart Dawson, Suffolk County's deputy chief medical examiner.

Police found Ricardo's body this week when they investigated a report of burst pipes.

The home's dry air had preserved his features, morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus said.

"You could see his face. He still had hair on his head," Bacchus said.

Ricardo's wife died years ago, and he lived alone, Dawson said.

"He hasn't been heard from in over a year. That's the part that baffles me," he said. "Nobody sounded the alarm."

Neighbors said they had thought Ricardo was in a hospital or nursing home.

"We never thought to check on him," said neighbor Diane Devon.
"Happiness is your dentist telling you it won't hurt and then having him catch his hand in the drill."

That is sad ... "We never thought to check on him," ... for a year.

I read that article this morning myself. How did no one notice. Doesn't this man have any family. The utilities would have been cut off as well. That is really very sad.

That really is sad. And you'd think somebody would wonder after the mail started piling up or something.

That is very sad and unacceptable. How can people be that thoughtless. Reminds me of my traumatic early days. I was kept alone and isolated...

I can think of a lot worse ways to go out. This one makes my short list of preferred options. Sadly, I figger that it's going to be more along the lines of "ok, turn it on!"

              Think about this...

              Direct deposit SS & pension
              Automatic bill payments

I bet either the IRS or school tax collectors would have been the first to find him after not filing or paying either.

Oddly, I find his life very sad, but not his death.

Lived alone, wife only companion before she died. No family, no friends, nobody to miss him. Almost like 70 years of anonymous life where he touched nobody's life and nobody touched his. A life not lived.

Wish I could find out about any such in my neighbourhood so I could go and read them a book or play a game of chess... I shall certainly dig out my old address book and give all my past friends a call this week, just to let them know they touched my life.

As for his manner of death - must have been a real peaceful one (unless he had chanced upon the Playboy channel ) .
And if he was watching E!, he must have gone brain dead as such
Reaally wonder what channel that TV was on.

And yes, somebody in the local utilities office is gonna hear about this from his/her boss- how come you did not cut his electricity for non-payment?
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I remember a time when we would check on certain elderly neighbors if we went a couple of days and did not see them. Times sure have changed.

oh, the disadvantages of auto-debit for utilities.

Sad to see how small a footprint some people leave on this earth.
Whose fault is it that he had no friends or family that cared?
Sometimes people withdraw into themselves. Perhaps he outlived all his friends and family members, made no new ones.

What a horribly sad commentary on a man's 70 years on this planet.

It's almost a wake-up call to the rest of us, putting a large portion of our "problems" in the corect perspective.

I remember reading "Death of a Salesman" years ago in school and still have this depressing feeling that I'll die and no one will either care or notice.

Now that I've bummed myself and you guys out, I'll apologize for this downer post.

Interesting....When we returned from a week away from home, my neighbor had hacked away the 4" of ice on our front walk. We are very lucky.

                        Cheers,

                          Childhood depression

Yea, It's hard having so tramatic a childhood, getting something cut off, that all you do is lie around for a year, not even getting out of bed for the restroom.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
