Do the members have every answer?

I hope so because I'm looking for a recipe for "Dentabone" type treats for dogs. Something that will help with tartar buildup and breath freshener. We've been buying the bones, but I think they're a ripoff at $3 - $4 per bone. We should be able to make them for next to nothing. Have I asked the first question that nobody has an answer for?

No. Just train him to brush his teeth or tell him to get a job.

Here's one for ya (your dog I mean). Happy munching!!!

      2 1/2 c flour
      2 c whole wheat flour
2 c cracked wheat(also known as bulghur) try health food store if your grocery doesn't carry this
1 packet dry yeast (kind you use to make bread)
      2-4 t salt
2 c chicken stock or another liquid, warmed
      1/2 c non-fat dry milk solids
      1 egg beaten with 1 T water
      1 T liquid milk

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 warm water. Combine dry ingredients. Add yeast mixture and chicken stock. Knead 3 minutes.

Roll 1/4" thick and cut into shapes. Place on cookie sheet and brush with egg wash.

Bake 45 minutes in 300 degree oven. Turn off heat and leave overnight to harden. If you don't have an oven you're outta luck.

The wife is a pet professional do not even BRING up the issue of dog treats and tooth or dental disease in dogs
We have been brain washed that eating hard crunchy stuff will help our pets

If it worked so well home come people who eat pretzels still have tooth loss?

What she will tell you is to use a special liquid that goes in their water bowl and when they drink it splashes about their teeth and gums and alters the way the body reacts to the tartar on the teeth

Also she recommends a gel like stuff that you simply slosh on with your finger 4 or so times per week

She gets great results with her clients who use them

          this is a ww forum.

so, how about 1 pound of sawdust (hardwood) plus a quart of elmers wood glue. Add beef boullion to suit. Mix well. Let set at room temperature,

What special liquid? Sounds like it might be worth a try.

Gorilla glue is better. Dogs concur.

No kidding, when my dog isn't visible on his normal bed by the shop door I know I need to track him down because he'll be trying to eat some hunk of wood he stole from the scrap bin.

At least that's better than the neighbor across the street where their 2 dogs chewed/ate ~1/2 of the trim around the interior doors and windows in a single day less than a month after moving in to a new house
