As mentioned, I liked Secondhand Lions.
I also liked Finding Forrester with Sean Connery.

Has anyone got a comment on Snakes on a Plane? SOAP, is the Samuel L Jackson "sleeper wannabe"? So bad that its good? trying to decide if I want to watch that thing or not.

I've not seen it, but my comment would be ... given that the title tells you everything you possibly need to know about the plot, what would be the point of wasting the time required to actually watch it???

if the title were mfsoamfp, then it would tell you everything.

I've got to tell you that some of you have already mentioned some of the best ones ever, Usual Suspects, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Secondhand Lions are all great choices. Others that I haven't seen mentioned are Sling Blade, The Big Lebowski and Napoleon Dynamite.

Sling Blade is a great movie written and starring Billy Bob Thorton.
The Big Lebowski has Dude. Everyone needs to know who Dude is.
Napoleon Dynamite is just funny. One of those off the wall looks at life.

"The Man Who Wasn't There" is my favorite Coen brothers film.

On a different note, I consider "Strange Brew" to be one of the best drinking movies, although I must admit it's one of the cheesiest.

Strange Brew is great! I can't believe that I didn't remember it. At work anyone can go cu-lu-coo-coo, etc and everyone knows what it is from.

              Great pick!

                My favorites.....

Jaws....The one about the shark......I think I might be the only person to see that one.

Shawshank Redemption. Good story about hope. There might be two or three people who saw that one.

October Sky is a good one.
                Worlds Fastest Indian. great movie.
                American History X.
                The Professional.
                Gross Point Blank
                Maybe...........

                  hmmm..my picks

                  Red Rock West

Blade (yeah, bBade, a sleeper, but only the original)

The Highlander (we are talking sleepers, right)

Breaking the Waves (not sure it made too much $$, but a sleeper in the sense it was way small, esoteric, and yet won every critic over. Cuation, protect your heart as this movie will cut it out with emotion, not a horror/action movie, and the "sequal" Dancer in the Dark will cut our whatever's left, both kinda gratuitous in their non-hollywood heart wrenching drama).

Or, you can just stick with "Sleepers", had DeNiro in it. May not be a "sleeper" in the low budget sense(dunno?), but its got the title to fit!
