After reading the "What do you look like" thread I got curious as to how everyone's shop looks like. I'm pretty new and don't have much yet and was curious how some of the senior members arrange their shops.
What does your shop look like??

Very impressive shops. Do the casters you use have breaks on them? I just got a bunch of casters at a swapmeet but they don't have the locks to hold them in place. Wondering if I need ones that do have them or maybe make my own locking system.I reject your reality and substitute my own.Comment

To illustrate what Sam means :
Here is my tiny basement shop, which is still evolving (or exploding).
The entry is located to the left of the bandsaw.
The DC is still in "shop-vac" mode, i.e., has only one hose that gets passed around.
Except for the workbench and the lathe, pretty much everything can be wheeled to the "play area", i.e. the space between the bench and the jointer. I built cabinets on casters for the MS, planer, mortiser, and drill press. I still have to add doors and drawers, but for now they keep a lot of stuff off the workbench and the floor.
Lumber storage is a bunch of white, epoxy-coated Stanley brackets that you can get at HD.
And here's a pic of The Saw and The World's Most Underutilized Lathe (it was an impulse buy, I have to admit ). Above the lathe is a work-in-progress router table made out of 48" x 24" MDF. When in use, it will simply be clamped onto the workbench and be supported by a Ridgid tilt-top stand underneath, an idea that I got from the latest FWW.The war against inferior and overpriced furniture continues!

Your shop looks nice, Chris! I might have to have you over one of these days to help me finish setting up my shop in my basement.Chris

I'll soon be relocating my shop into a larger building -- and a welcome change that will be, because the current one is so cramped I have to step outside to have room to fart. Here are two general views, one from each end of the main room:
My wood storage is elsewhere, in an adjoining 5x12 room. The dust collector sits in the little alcove to the left of the bandsaw (first picture).
Perhaps the worst thing about this space is that there's just barely six feet of headroom under those collar ties you see. The lights over the workbench are even lower ... about 5'-8" AFF. BUT, this space has been good to me. Built quite a few projects in it, had a lot of fun.LarryComment

"Do the casters you use have breaks on them?"
Yes, it's pretty important that the machines don't move while you are working on them. You could ruin the piece you are working on or even worse ruin yourself with an accident.
All my casters are swivel casters with locks that lock both the wheel from turning and the caster from swiveling. I like the casters from Hartville tools but there are several places to get good casters at a fair price. Don't skimp and get light weight casters however because they won't hold up and they don't roll as well.
Good luck,

Mark, YOU SUCK.
Thom, I'm interested in how you have your shop arranged and would like to see some close-ups. You can start with those blue wall cabinets. The doors on those look especially intriguing. Get in nice and tight, please, so I can really see how well they're, uh, put together ...LarryComment
