One of mine also, the check writers bother me more though, waiting until everything has been scanned, getting the total and then writing the check. Fill out the basics before that.

Another one of mine is the people who like to carry on conversations with the turnpike toll both attendants, when only one lane is open.

As someone else mentioned the moron who thinks they can enter the expressway traffic doing 70 mph, creeping up the ONE LANE on ramp at 15 mph and then STOPS at the top.

Women, putting on make up at the stop light, face stuck up in the rear view mirror at the front of the line at the light. Then have the nerve to get mad because you honk the horn after the light has been green for 10 seconds.

Driving being the way I earn my lunch money.......
      1. Drivers who come up even to my rear bumper in the next lane and won't pass. Ever been next to a trailer at 65mph when he had a tire blow? This really makes me mad at night. I have big mirrors to see you with and even low beams bother me at night when they just sit there. It's almost as bad if they ride at a more safe distance.
      2. Tailgaters. Have you ever seen what a large trailer bumper will do to your "roller skate" of a car when you can't stop fast enough?
Cutting me off on an open highway, when the interstate is almost empty. Why? When I've got 80,000lbs of gas and tractor trailer this isn't a good time to check my brakes.
      3. And just so no-one thinks I'm just all pro truck driver.... the people who p*ss me off the most are the truck drivers who do all the above..... they ought to friggin know better. Add cops to that list of people who should know better.
This Georgia DOT officer rear ended me on the off ramp into the scale house south of Atlanta on I-75 the Monday before Christmas 2004. I barley felt him hit me. Fortunately he wasn't hurt. He asked me why I was slowing down so much........DUH.... "here's your sign"

        Counter argument

I routinely get homework assignments from my children's teachers. "Please review Alex's spelling words with her 4 times by Thursday." Of course LOML and I are highly interested and involved in D & S and their homework and thus do exactly as the teacher expects, but I feel like sending back a note to the teacher "Alex failed to clean her room this weekend. Please ensure she does so before next Monday." How do we educate students of uneducated parents? Do they get less of an education from the system?

I firmly believe that, through my taxes, I pay educators to educate my children in the curriculum. I educate them in all other things not included in the curriculum. Teachers should teach my kids math; I'll teach them the value of honesty.

I also have too many to list, but here are some highlights:

            <Rant>

+1 on the cell phone while driving thing.

People who don't use their turn signals. How much effort is involved in moving a lever 1 inch?

Dairy Queen: they employ idiots; don't get me started.

Finally, the inverse of JSCooks: people who freak out when temperatures get a little below freezing, or they get a few inches of snow and it shuts down their life. This morning on the national news the weather guy was talking about a particular area of the country suffering through "arctic temperatures that may drop into the single digits during the night." Until the day's high is in the negative double digits with a 40 mph steady wind, don't talk to me about cold.

            </Rant>

How about the ones the do use the turn signal, as they are turning.

Or your sitting at a crossroad waiting for the car coming down the road, they turn the turn signal on about 5 feet from you.

Yes. Educated parents know the value of it and are going to make sure their kids are educated whether or not the teacher asks that homework be reviewed.

For my daughter we are seriously considering having my MIL (a retired teacher) teach via web cam.

Teaching is hard, as are a lot of jobs, but that's a whole 'nuther thread.

I had to think about it for several minutes to narrow my list down to less than 376,425. Here goes:

Students who think my class is easy because it's Fine Arts.
Students who won't do the work because they think I won't notice. That'll show me.
Parents who assume that their child is my only student.
People who think that the more passionate they are in their beliefs, the more valid the beliefs are.
People who confuse opinion with fact.

                    And finally:

                    Listing my pet peeves.

Man, I never realized how many pet peeves I've got. I guess most of these can be summed up as:

                      1. People who are completely unaware of the world around them. Although I haven't noticed this one as much lately. (haha)

I too hate people who stop on the on-ramp, but also people who "just go" when getting on the on-ramp. There is a sign there that says something to the effect of "Yield" I believe....not "Just plow on" and not "STOP". Be aware of the traffic and merge accordingly.

Speaking of ramps- people who slow down to 45 while they are still ON the highway before the ramp and don't make any attempt to move off the highway until the last second. There is a ramp for a reason.

People who don't use turn signals effectively. I thought the idea was to let someone know that you are ABOUT to make a turn- not that you already made one.

People who pull a cart into a self-checkout line, scan one item, put it back in the cart, pull the next item out of the cart, scan it, put it back into the cart, etc....

People who cannot park or park as if "they have arrived".

People who come to the U.S. and don't speak english. Sorry if this isn't PC- but it's rude.

Illegal immigrants. Don't get me started.

Customer non-service- computers, foreigners who you can't understand, people who are less educated about their products than you are, lazy workers, people who just don't listen, etc.

                      Wow...we should write a book.

My biggest pet peeve is having to watch someone else use the computer. I cant stand it! I usually end up taking the mouse away. I am a computer programmer and it drives me nuts having to watch people move around slow on the computer!!!

OK, gotta add ... Amazon.com sometimes!

Today got a hard plastic part that would ship in a padded envelope ... in a 20" x 19" x 9" box with the requisite 70 air pillows! Sometimes I wonder if their packers don't do this on purpose to chew up Amazon's profits!

On a road with a center lane, the people who slow down in the travel lane and creep into the center lane, usually leaving their rear-end sticking out into traffic. I think they're afraid of a head-on colission when they should be afraid of being rearended.
                            Blessings,
