I routinely get homework assignments from my children's teachers. "Please review Alex's spelling words with her 4 times by Thursday." Of course LOML and I are highly interested and involved in D & S and their homework and thus do exactly as the teacher expects, but I feel like sending back a note to the teacher "Alex failed to clean her room this weekend. Please ensure she does so before next Monday." How do we educate students of uneducated parents? Do they get less of an education from the system?

I firmly believe that, through my taxes, I pay educators to educate my children in the curriculum. I educate them in all other things not included in the curriculum. Teachers should teach my kids math; I'll teach them the value of honesty.
Or the other counter arguement. Govenments that try to make it illegal for parents to raise their children. (IE California)

People who believe that touching a student on the shoulder should result in the firing of the teacher. (happened to a friend of mine)

To sum up: My biggest pet peeve: Stupid People.

BEING LATE-- Early is on time, on time is late & we wont even talk about what comes after that
TURN SIGNALS--use them, they are to let everyone else look out for you.
HEADLIGHTS--when its dark or foggy or raining turn them on

... Smokers who think they have a right to pollute the air I have to breathe.

... Rice rocket car drivers who think that putting a "pop can" on their exhaust makes them go faster (the best line I heard was "Racing in a Honda is like the Special Olympics, even if you do happen to win, your still a retard").

... drivers who think the highway is somehow the "Indy 500" for the morning commute to work.

Don't get me wrong, as I'm usually doing 5 or 10 over the limit ... but come on, theres no need to try and double it or zigzag in and out of lanes constantly!

I know I know. I'm just funnin' with ya. I am not one of the zigzaggers but I don't poke along either.

Just happened - no traffic for a country mile behind me and this putz has to pull out and drag along 25 MPH slower than the speed limit, goes 8/10ths, slow to a near stop, puts on the right turn signal and turns in a driveway. Geeez! "Me first", seems to be the motto of the country anymore.

A couple of days ago a similar subject came up on a computer forum that is geared to ministry.

I posted my "frustration" of helping one particular personality type that wants everything repeated, clarified and verified before they act. Here is the typical conversation:

Me: OK, now that we have that fixed, open Word.
Them: So you want me to open MS Word now?
                    Me: Yes!
Them: So I should click on Word?
                    Me: Yes!
Them: So if I click on Word now, it is going to Open?
Me: Yes, just click on Word!
Them: OK, I am now going to click on Word! Is that OK?
Me: Just click on it NOW!
(You can substitute "Control Panel", "Run", "Accept" etc in the dialog and it is still the same.)

I know that this is a personality trait of some people, because I know three people that I have to do this with. Drives me up the wall!

I'd say there is a wide category of people I call 'oblivious blockers'. At least, it looks like they are oblivious to the fact that they are blocking.

                        This manifests in many ways.
Those who would chat for a few minutes with the store clerk while there is a line behind them - or wait till last second to start rummaging for their wallet/checkbook. Checkbooks in particular. HELLO? It's called a 'debit card'!!!
Those who stop in a narrow passage to chat, talk on phone, whatever.
Those who drive in left lane at exactly same speed as those in other lanes.
Those who stand on the left side of an escalator when I am in a hurry to make the bus/train.
Those who drive in the 'EZ-Pass only' lane only to try and squeeze into a cash line right before the booths.
                        And many more.

OK, I'll throw my two cents in:

                          1. People who routinely mispronounce simple words such as:

                          Nuclear (they'll say nuke-you-ler)
                          Ambulance (not amb-a-lance)
                          Masonry (as opposed to ma-son-ary)
EMS (not MES) - granted, it's an acronym, perhaps simple letters are harder.

                          2. Rude people in general

                          3. People who fail to use (or entirely lack) basic, rudimentary common sense. These are often the same people described in items 1 and 2.

                          4. Failure to accept responsibility for one's actions (or inactions). It's never, "I made a mistake. I will do everything in my power to correct the situation, and in the meantime, I am prepared to accept the consequences." Nope, there's always an excuse. "I was abused as a child," "I was discriminated against because of my race/gender/sexual orientation/religion/mental and/or physical disability, etc," "I was overmedicated," "I was undermedicated," "nobody told me the coffee would be hot..." and on and on and on.... Most of the ridiculous warning labels placarded all over society can be attributed one of these twits.

And finally, a few, career related peeves (bear with me):

                          5. People who flood EMS systems and emergency departments with non-emergency issues (colds, cough, flu, etc), complain about the wait and overcrowding, then demand antibiotics (which don't work on viruses and only promote antibiotic resistance if used improperly).

                          6. Oblivious drivers who:
                          • Fail to yield to oncoming emergency vehicles
                          • Mistakenly believe that emergency vehicles are present only to part traffic for them
                          • Fail to even slow down when approaching and/or passing an accident scene
                          • Park in fire lanes, but refuse to move when requested
                          • Park in fire lanes, but complain vigorously when smelly emergency vehicles do so
                          • Ignore barricades, cones, and other directional indicators at accident scenes and or road closures. "Can I get through here? I live just over there...."
                          • Pull out in front of fire apparatus and stop. NEWS FLASH: 76000 pound ladder companies DO NOT stop on a dime.

                          7. People who summon EMS, demand transport, but refuse to provide any information or accept necessary treatment because the responding paramedics "aren't my doctor."

                          8. People who call 911 because they believe they will bypass the waiting room at the emergency department. They often meet paramedics at the door with a packed suitcase. See item #5.

                          9. People who call 911 for a tummy ache, but report chest pain or trouble breathing instead because they believe EMS will respond more rapidly, then they will bypass the waiting room at the emergency department.

                          10. Uninjured drivers at motor vehicle accidents who suddenly develop spontaneous neck injuries when they recongnize potential lawsuits. I have transported patients to hospitals only to discover they were not involved in the orignal accident, just wallet-sniffing.

Whew!! I think I need to find my Happy Place. Serenity now... serenity now... serenity now....

IMHO we're all in trouble, as all of the pet peeves mentioned so far are becoming far more common. What ever happened to good manners? Consideration? Too many syllables in that word, or too many reality TV shows that show greed, backbiting, etc?
