Radio set to either oldies or country.

I don't listen to anything other than my machines.

          1. With muffs on and machines going I can't hear the radio anyway.
          2. Safety - I don't want the distraction. I've tried listening to the radio but was always tuning <-- a pun! it out to concentrate on what I was doing
          3. I like listening to my machines. Sound has always been the first indication to me that something is wrong. By the time you see smoke it is probably too late...

I voted for #5, Tunes, but actually #1 and #6 both apply at times. When I'm just puttering around, or cleaning up, or sometimes when I'm doing assembly, I play CDs using an old laptop that I keep in a shop cabinet. But when I'm seriously working, #1 and #6 come into play (no pun intended!) because I either don't want the distraction, couldn't hear anything over the machines, or have my muffs on.

Picked News Radio, as that was closest. I'm usually only free to work on the weekends, so it is Car Talk, Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, and other NPR shows. When that isn't on, it is music other than Rap.

Ya know, I read Loring's reply, and that went right over my head.

Couple months ago, while listening to the car radio, My Local DeeJay said something like, "And now a classic oldie from 1983! Here's [song] by [band]!"

I'd never heard of the song OR the band. To me, like you, Oldie means 1950s-1960s and Classic Rock means ~1968 to about 1980. To realize a song from 1983 would now be considered an oldie made me feel, well, old ...

I have the radio tuned to a local country station. If I could find an 80's station around here then it would be tuned to that as those are the songs that I listened to in High School and some of them bring back some memories.

With the machines running, I don't have anything on (no, not nude!). If I'm just cleaning up, or killing time, I might have some tunes going. If there's a game on, I'll probably watch it, and clean up later.
