I forgot to tell you about that stuff, although we call it NuSkin and I use it when I have a cut on my right hand, I bowl every week and I have also used super glue, works wonders.

My hands crack so bad that they bleed. There is a couple of things that you can do, first any good hand cream will help.

Second, get a tube of chapstick and rub it into the cracks, especially at night when you go to bed and in the morning when you get up. The cracks will usually heal in a day or two.

I also have the same problem and it appears whenever I have to do manual-intensive activities such as woodworking, shovelling, raking, working on the car or other machinery, etc.

The best preventative I have found is something called CUTEMOL. Its sold as "emollient skin cream" and as a "Dermatolotists' treatment for severe dry skin." Its a little pricey, but it really works for me when I apply it, with careful attention to the finger tips, at night, before retiring. Its available in select pharmacies. Check it at www.sumlab.com.

When things are really bad I use hydrocortisone cream and "Finger Care" Band-Aids (specially designed for finger tips and knuckles.

Good luck. I can testify to the painfulness of those cracks.

        Regards, Steve

Two different things that work, both available at Walgreen's. Vitamin E oil and Burt's Bees's Hand Salve.

I use the Burt's at night. Rub it in good and wipe off the excess with a paper towel. I use the E oil during the day, applied the same way.

The E oil also helps small cuts heal with minimum scarring.

The back of my hands used to split pretty bad in winter, until I found Zim's Crack creme. The 'day time' creme doesn't do much, but the regular stuff (comes in a spray bottle, Walgreens) is amazing. I apply it before I go to bed, and it seems like I have new skin in the morning. I start using it at the first sign of redness, and haven't had cracked skin in a long time.

I tried a lot of other stuff, this was the first that truly helped. Brought some to my Mom in Germany. She called me a little later to tell me how great it worked for her. She even asked her pharmacist if it was save to use, because the only other stuff she used that had similarly good results was prescription and not OK for longer use. Pharmacist said it's all natural, use as much as you want...

No relations to the company, just a very happy user of that product.

            YMMV.

Posting here, just to see if anybody else has the same problem as me, and if there is a better solution.

Every winter for as long as I can remember, I have problems with my finger tips cracking open, particularly on my right hand, on the end of me thumb and index finger.

We have had a month of near or below zero, and I've just started having this same problem. I hate greasy hand lotions, and avois them like crazy - -worried about staining clothes, or worse -- the WOOD!

My wife got me a tube of St. Ives -- not greasy, and rubs in fast. No doubt there are plenty of similar brands, but this is one I'm willing to use daily.

Regarding using CA glue: While kind of extreme, it is safe -- early uses include repairs during surgery where stitches were impractical.
