    Red Skelton

Maybe no longer very politically correct, but these jokes were delivered with the expertise only an old Vaudevillian could master – Red Skelton was a master performer, clown, comedien. Bill

RED SKELTON'S RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

    1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.

    2. We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in California and mine is in Texas.

    3. I take my wife everywhere ..... but she keeps finding her way back.

    4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven’t been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

    5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

    6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.

    7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was; she told me "In the lake."

    8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.

    9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling "Am I too late for the garbage?".... The driver said "No, jump in!"

    10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

    11. I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was Always.

    12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.

    13. The last fight was my fault though.. My wife asked "What's on the TV?" I said "Dust!"

Thanks for sharing Bill. I used to watch Red on TV and still be laughing long after he had gone off. He was a great one.

When I was about 7 yo, (a very long time ago), a friend of my parents wanted to take me to my first movie.

I refused to go, saying: "I don't want to see a red skeleton".

      Cheers,

A year or two back, Harbor Freight carried a Red Skeleton DVD. I don't know if they still carry it as i haven't seen it lately, but i haven't been looking.

Not only was he a great performer, clown, and comedian, he was also quite an artist. We saw some of his works years ago, which were for sale. Now I wish I would have bought some of them.

              Pointless Red Skelton trivia

Red got his start on the Goldenrod Showboat, in a duo act with his father. When I was researching my Master's thesis on the Goldenrod, he came to town and I tried my d***est to interview him. Unfortunately I couldn't get past his people (on the phone, not in person), so I didn't get the interview.

Now he's gone. I used to make sure I was home for his show when I was a kid. I last saw him perform on the Oscars (probably in the early 80s), where he did almost 10 minutes on whether the microphone was on or not. I nearly passed out from laughing. A real master of the craft.....

              g.

[EDIT] According to the official Red Skelton website, Red's father died two months before he was born, making it pretty hard for Red to work on the Goldenrod with his father. Hmmmmm.....gonna have to do some more research, since I have one source that says Red performed with his father. **sigh** Such is scholarship!

I remember him as a child. My grandfather always said that he was the greatest. For those of you who don't know him (or those that just want to reminisce) check him out here.
