I have used AVG, Norton, McAfee, PC-Cillin, Avast, and others. At one point I was running AVG & Avast at the same time- which you may not be able to do anymore.

I agree with everyone here about Norton and McAfee. Don't bother. I worked for a software company for a while and got a free copy of Trendmicro's PC-Cillin. Honestly, I think it's better than Avast and AVG by far. It's quick, doesn't seem to use up too many resources, has plenty of options, and just finds everything. I haven't had a virus on any of the computers running it in well over 2 years. Even with AVG and Avast I'd occassionally get one and have to clean, but they were great for free.

I got a copy of norton for free also. I removed PC-Cillin, put the norton software on, and an hour after I removed PC-Cillin I was putting it back on. As soon as Norton was installed it pretty much shut down my computer. I have never seen such junk. It makes Microsoft look like computer programming gods. Granted, I have a friend who I gave a copy of PC-Cillin to and he said he noticed a little bogging down on his parents computer (he didn't need it, but needed something for them) but left it on and it's useable. It is a somewhat older computer..

So, if you are going to spend money, go with PC-Cillin. If you go free, go with Avast, AVG, or PC-CIllin if you can find it for free. And like some others said- using online scans is good too- double checking is helpful. Even though Trend's PC-cillin seems to catch everything, I am sure even that has viruses it won't detect- they all do.
