    Thank you, Mr. President

President Ford was the only president that I ever saw in person. I was 5 years old when he visited Manila. My family stood on the sidewalk of Dewey Boulevard for hours just to catch a glimpse of presidential motorcade as it made its way to the international airport.

His presidency was not the most stellar, but niceness and decency rank high in my book, and I think he possessed and exhibited those traits very well.

The Chicago Tribune could have done a better job breaking this news to its readers, though: two champagne glasses depicting a New Year's Eve match between the Bears and the Packers and a photo of Saddam almost caught my eyes first. No wonder The Tribune Company's in trouble...

I think President Ford did a decent job of trying to get the American People's trust back, and move the country forward. There was a lot of bad feelings everywhere.

Our morning paper hardly had anything about it. There was nothing on the evening news last night. Was wondering why. Then when I get to work I started going thru my morning mail, found CNN Breaking News Email was sent at 1:08 AM Eastern saying he died.

Then it all made sense most newspapers would have already had the papers ready to print, if not printed by then. SO the paper either has to pull a front page article, and put in something to fill the same space, or redesign the WHOLE front page. Redesigning a whole page, specially the front (can't just throw an ad in for filler) which includes adding/subtracting lines from other articles, pictures resized, etc. this is NOT an easy, last minute fix. Also at that time how much was known.

        Some Ford Facts

        1. He was not elected to the Vice-Pres or Pres posts
        2. He had the best retirement package of any, retirment from his Senate, Vice and Pres.
        3. He was born a different name, his name was changed
        4. G. Ford Sr. was his step father
        4. MVP at UoM and was offerd a spot on the Packers, but turned it down to be a Boxing and Football coach at Yale.

Just FYI on one of the most interesting persons to hold the office.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible

Listening to a special on him right now on History Channel (Preempted Modern Marvels)

I have toi say that he had one of the best Presidential quotes I've ever heard.

          "I am a Ford, not a Lincoln"

          For everything that it implies.

My personal favorite quote from Ford was about his golf game when he said "I can tell that I'm getting better, I don't hit as many spectators" I paraphrased that, but you get the gist of it.

I wouldn't want to be in the situation he was in. So many tough decisions in such a short period of time.

            May he rest in peace,

On #2 I think he was a representative, not a senator. Does he get a sentate pension because he was VP?
