    What a Day

Well what a day we are having.

Yesterday before we went to Christmas dinner we noticed that our furnace was making noises, some squeling once in a while and then would stop.

Well today I decided to vacuum out the furnace thinking that the dust was causing some problems in there, and I went and bought a new furnace filter. But when the kids and I got home I noticed a hot smell and saw there was a little smoke in the house so I was on the hunt trying to figure out where it was coming from. Then I found that it was coming from the furnace so I opened the front of it and pushed the little button to turn on just the fan and NOTHING happened. So I call Mark and tell him that I think we just lost the furnace and he came home and checked it out. Well he will trouble shoot it tonight when he has time and see what it is but he thinks its the blower on it because its not turning very well and should be he said.

Luckily last year when Thomas was born we installed a wall heater in our room and that will keep the end of the house with the bedrooms in it warm. And of course the "only" furnace repair place that I will use is closed today.

So I hope that it doesn't cost much but we will see.

Yikes, that's no good! Sure is nice to have a second heat source, though, isn't it?

Reminds me of a few years ago when the furnace went out in our two year old (!) house. I couldn't believe how much it cost to replace the igniter. And when the guy told me why they're worth the $$, I had to laugh -- it's because they last so long.

Good luck -- kinda does sound like the blower, if you heard squealing, and it doesn't turn well. Once you take the belt off, you'll know if it's a bearing in the squirrel cage or the motor.

    Regards,
    Tom

I seems like several people are having bad luck just after Christmas, and some even before. Sorry to hear of the problem, and hopefully it won't take too much to get it going again.

Oh and another thing that we found out tonight while hooking up the DVD player that we exchanged because we thought the other one was broken.

            WE NEED A NEW TV!!!!!!

Works fine now but when Mark was trying to hook up the player to the tv we actually had to hook up the cables to the front of the TV before we could watch a DVD. He thinks that where the s-video cable hooks in is gone.

Now granted needing a new TV is not nescisarily a bad thing but my entertainment center was made to fit our "current" tv size, and right now money is an issue especially since we have a broken furnace.

I am sure that one of these days things will be better, but that might be after I win the lottery and we know what the odds are on me winning that.

I feel your pain... I've been dealing with a sting of bad luck for the last couple of months. And that string included a heat pump fan that wouldn't start. It turned out to be the start capacitor. The fan motor was warm because it was trying to turn, but it just didn't have the extra juice supplied by the start capacitor. I was thankful it was a simple fix.

Melissa, don't let the trials drag you down during the holiday season. It's all fixable and there are ways around the expenses. But you know that, being an intelligent person. If need be you can pick up a used TV to fit your center but you have the important stuff all taken care of - a great family.
                  God bless,

Okay, gotta throw mine in. SWMBO and I took a cruise last week to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. While on the cruise, her laptop (Powerbook Pismo-almost 7 years old) locked up and would not reboot. Got home and after swapping hard drives to save her data, it was obviously a problem with hardware...looks like integrated video controller died. Ordered a newer machine (she found a used one that she liked better than new). She needed the newer machine anyway, I was just hoping to put it off for a few more weeks. Replacement motherboard for the laptop is on the way from eBay. Since eBay auctions for parts from this thing aren't worth squat, I figured $50 to get it going again might make $200 in an auction.

When we got off the ship, found out that the older son (7 1/2) had a fever of around 102.5. No fun with him when we got home.

Then, Sunday night, after last load of laundry from the cruise, washer springs a leak when filling with water. Waiting on the repair guy to come...going to be over a week. Washer is almost 9 years old. Now, we gotta go to the in-laws to do laundry. However, like someone has said in another thread, things could always be worse.

Hope all goes well getting the furnace an TV repaired. Reminds me, gotta call to get the front inputs on mine repaired while still under warranty.

Well we are back in business. I went and picked up our new furnace blower motor today and didn't think that being charged about 100.00 was too bad for it. They even put the motor on the fan for us. Mark will put it in when he gets home and then we will be back in business for the night and have some heat.

Let me tell you that I am one happy camper right now.

Well, that's the best news I've heard all day.

Glad to hear you are better now or at least will be tonight. Too darn cold to be going without a heater. I know your feeling though. When it rains it pours - or so it seems. Maybe this will be all your bad luck this whole new year. One can hope.
May you die and go to heaven before the Devil knows you're dead. My Best, Mac

Glad to hear that things are warming up for you. $100 isn't too bad, but those kind of bills add up.

We're looking at an all new system in the spring at my house. Fortunately, the landlord/FIL will be footing that bill.
