    Tools and friends

If a friend of yours wanted to borrow one of your tools while you were on vacation for a week or two, what would you say? I'm talking about tools about maybe like a thickness planer, table saw (he'll move it) or jointer.

No. Been there, have tools come back broken that I had to fix. My dad and one brother get to use mine. My dad because I've broken enough of his growing up and this particular brother because he treats tools better than I do.

no way....maybe my circular saw or drill...Not none of the big stuff..I spent good money for this stuff...for me.....I don't even offer to let people watch my DVD's...I paid for em....
Now last time i deployed I had about 200 movies and everyone was happy when I rolled into the tv room. But I had to start leaving some movies behind. I saw one movie 7 times in two weeks because someone hadn't seen it yet...

NO WAY! ... been there and it wasn't pretty ... most friends and family (excluding dad and FIL) know not to even ask now, unless I come along ... Dad (my FIL just passed away this year) are the exception as they both treated my stuff as if it was their's ...

Except for my best friend of 46 years, who uses tools better than I do ... short answer no. If my buddy broke anything I know he'd make it right. And if he hurt himself I know he'd blame himself, not me. And after use he'd clean 'em all up, again better than I do.

Absolutely NOT. Maintenance isn't that much fun!!!!!!!!!!!
The only person I would lend anything I own to is like us about his own tools and therefore wouldn't ask.

NO, especially when I'm away for two weeks. If something happened, to the tool or the friend, how could I make it right if I am out of town for two weeks. The prospect of cutting short a vacation or business trip because someone cut off one or more of his fingers using my saw is too much to even consider it.

As long as I can borrow his car while he has my tool

Not a chance. When was the last time that someone borrowed something of yours and it came back in the same condition it was loaned? End of statement.

For most people the answer would be no, however one very good friend (he actually got me started in wood working) I would loan any tool in my shop and not worry at all about it.
