    Back after trip

Just got back from DC on a trip with the VFW. Fifty four of us left Thurs. early AM from northern NY and were in Falls Church, VA. by 6PM. Friday toured DC and saw as many of the sites as time and feet would allow. Sat. went to Arlington for the Veteran's Day service at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Had tickets to the ampitheater with a seat within 50 ft. of the President who gave the speech. LOML got a nod and wave from Sen. Bob Dole. Saw the new Speaker of the House; the Chief MSgt. of the AF, Senator Werner (sp?) and about a million generals/admirals/and every other rank. The ceremony was very stirring to put it mildly! The weather was just perfect; middle 70's until Sun. when we had to leave. I must say Arlington is one of the most sobering places I've ever been--miles and miles of grave stones of our bravest.

Welcome back. I've never been to Arlington, but I've heard from others about Veteran's Day there. It must really be something to experience.

never visited Arlington but I've been to the Punchbowl military cemetary on Oahu (officially National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific ) in Hawaii and it's very sobering too.

It fills an inactive volcanic crater and you can stand there and see the whole thing.
