    Sound Card Trouble

I just had my wifes ATI Wonder sound card go bad on her computer, luckily I had a old sound card that I could replace it with to get her up and running. My question is that I have never had a card go bad on any system that I have ever owned, how common is this.

Quite common in my experience in IT ... two Creative Labs Live! 5.1 dead at just over a year old on both (2 different systems) was the fastest that I've seen them go ...

I'd say your pretty lucky if that's your first card to go bad. I have boxes of dead ethernet, sound, video and multi-port cards.

My question to you is, how many computer parts have you had go bad, period?

Probably not very many, so a sample of one or two does not necessarily make a trend.

Generally, my only concern is, how much to replace it?

At home I finally got rid of my first computer recently which my son was using and I gave him my second one to make room for my third. I also have a laptop and my daughter has a computer. Out of all of those the only thing to ever go bad was one hard drive on the second computer. It wasn't the orginal. It was less than 2 years old.

At work though I went through two hard drives and a bay (for the removable hard drive) in less than a year. I suspect the bay may have been the problem all along since the third drive I thought was bad was ok when it was put into another one.
