Don't mean to offend anyone, but Missouri Interstates are TOTALLY messed up with construction
. Never seen anything that bad before anywhere. We went out (Ohio Boy) for graduation of the youngest from boot camp, at Ft. Lenard Wood.
The wife an I decided to take old US 66 part of the way back home to bypass the construction. The road signs for Old US Route 66 in Missouri were very well documented. Bought a book that told us about things along the way. Saw many old places, some were easier to see then others due to modifications over the years. We are talking about taking in part of the route again some time in the future. Took some pictures, wife wouldn't stop to let me take pictures, only got what I could shoot while moving in the truck
. Still was able to get off several rolls of film.
The wildest part was shortly after we left St. Roberts, was listening to the radio about the storms behind us. Went thru St. James, then on to Cuba where we stopped for something to eat. Just got the food and the Tornado sirens go off (one is outside the cafe we stopped at). We continued to finish the meal (the food was good
), and watch outside.
After the sirens stopped, and I got done eating, I thought I would go outside and check things out, and see if there was any damage. I looked up and saw the clouds above me going in every direction (at different levels) at the same time. Thought OH SH!t, just then the tornado sirens go off for the second time. Asked the waitress if they had a walk-in cooler, and if it was stocked with beer. She looked at me kinda of confused. I said a walk in cooler would be a decent shelter, unless they had a better one.
She said they didn't, I said besides the beer will calm the nerves. She didn't buy it
.
It did pour down rain, I don't think you could see the hand in front of your face if you were in it. After the storm we continued on, heard later about St. James getting hit with 2 tornado's, missed it by about 15 minutes. That is the closest I want to be to be in bad weather when I'm several states away from home.
It's one thing to be in your area when bad weather strikes, it's different when your several states away. I didn't think about it, until this weekend.
It's the little things, like when the radio talks about a counties weather is that near you, North, South, East, West??? What are the odds of a storm that is 50 miles away (other side of the ridge???) getting over your way??
Where are flash flood areas?? Where do you go, it's not like you can stop at your friend house down the road to ride out the storm, etc.
