    Casino Royale

Bond was mentioned in another thread and it got me to thinking. (Dangerous I know ).

Daniel Craig is the new Bond and Casino Royale is his 1st movie as Bond. This was also Ian Fleming's 1st Bond book IIRC. I hope he returns the character to how Fleming wrote him - a gentleman and your best buddy but ruthless when he had to be. He had a few cool gadgets but he still got out of jams with his wits and not the gadgets. Sean Connery played him the closest, esp. in the early movies. Roger Moore made him a little too campy and it went downhill from there. The last couple movies have been terrible Bond films and not even very good action movies.

I agree - Sean Connery ruled and was the best!

"Bond ... James Bond." he said it best.

Sean Connery outdid himself in any role he has ever played. In addition to being the best Jams Bond there are several more that come to mind. The Rock, Hunt for Red October, The Great Train Robbery, Medicine Man, and Rising Sun.

The first "Bond" flick that I saw was "From Russia with Love" which was a major box office hit in our area. They then brought back "Dr. No" which had played the year before (as I recall), but not too many people caught that the first time around. Certainly "Goldfinger" was probably the giggest hit of all, but after that they started to get too much "gadgetry" IMO and they started to slip a bit. "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger" are still my two favorites.

Connery is also one of my favorite actors and I first saw him in a black and white movie called "The Hill". It was about some British soldiers who were imprisoned for various infractions. I don't remember much of the plot though.

My favorite Connery movie is "The Wind and the Lion". Great tale with Connery playing a desert chieftan who kidnaps an American woman (Candice Bergan) and her two children. Brian Keith plays Teddy Roosevelt. No cars, airplanes, electronic or other gadgets, but good action and adventure. It's a great story with Connery at his best.

            Sean's other good movies:
            Finding Forrester
            Indana Jones
            Entrapment

            also.
His worst movies I ever saw were Avengers and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Real disappointments.

Yeah, Avengers was a bit of a disappointment, but still kinda fun. He does make a good villain. But, the Avengers just isn't right without Diana Rigg, the only woman that Bond ever married (to bring it back to the original topic).

I guess I'm the only one here to like Pierce Brosnan? I think that he made the best Bond since Connery, although there's no question that Connery was the best. I also really like Judy Dench as M, I think that she really brought more depth to M than any previous actor did.

I now someone before mentioned the Rock as a good Connery movie, I personally thought it was pretty bad... But, I don't really remember, only saw it once when it was in the theaters, as a freebie because a friend worked there.

I agree with almost everyone. One of my favorite Connery movies is one that very few people mention. Called, "The Man Who Would Be King" about two british soldiers who go adventuring in the himilayas and find themselve amonge a group who considers one of them a God and make hime th eking .. of course, the whole thing goes downhill and they end up running for their lives ..I cant remember who played theother charagter

You are right, TMWWBK was a fabulous movie. Second actor was Michael Caine--one of his finest roles, as well.

Speaking of Pierce Brosnan, I highly recommend "The Matador". It's good enough it makes you forget he was 007 for awhile.
