    Carribean Cruise

Going to a Carribean cruise next month and need to book activities.. We are going to the following ports of call:

    Ochos Rios, Jamaica
    Cozumel, Mexico
    George Town, Grand Cayman

I have never been to these places. Anybody been on these places? Any recommendations? Me and the LOML would greatly appreciate it.

This would probably be our last vacation because we are planning to start a family soon.

    Thank you!
    Chris

    depends what you like.

Ocho Rios, the Dunns River Falls is a great attraction - shouldn't miss.

Cayman Islands, Georgetown, you can go shopping on your own in the central area, lots of shops for jewelry and duty free kinds of goods. Gets very crowded when 10 ships pull in in one day like the last time I was there. If you like scuba diving or Snorkling, its a great place, the base is limestone so the water is very clear and it gets deep very fast offshore. They have many diving and scuba tours and its great there, the sting rays are famous and lost of tropical fish you can dive amongst. You can also goto the beach (7-mile beach?)

Cozumel is also a very busy port, i think 8 ships were there last year in December when I went. Still a lot of damage last December from the Hurricane. But the shops are right at the port where the tenders drop off and lots of silver, jewelry, leather that Mexico is famous for and also the dty free kinds of stuff at low prices. I think water sports are also good but Georgetown is considered better.

Have fun. I'm going again in October... don't ask me why.

One thing I'd avoid in Georgetown or anywhere - the "Submarine Tour." We thought it would be cool and it was OK, but you really can't see much down there, and the sub is so crowded you better not be claustrophobic. Never again.

In Mexico we toured some of the ancient ruins, but then LOML and I are into archeology. Really nice.

But if you're more into shopping I agree with everyone above; same on the swimming / snorkeling / etc.

I agree about Ochos Rios, LOML and I went there for our honeymoon and had a great time. Dunns river falls is very beautiful. And the locals can put Rum in anything. We left with tons of stuff from our little shopping excursions. With all the wood carvings, coffee and cigars that we came back with it took FOREVER to get through customs. I didn't think about it at the time but they had to check every carving for hollow cavities.

This was quite a few years ago but it may be the same now. They may not bother you but everyone and their mothers pestered us to see if we wanted to buy some "smoke or some coke". They were just trying to make a living and they were nice about it though, when told "no thanks" they would leave you alone, but you had to deal with everyone else who was waiting for a chance to offer it to you. And there were alot of them waiting, even the hotel employees would ask us. Someone explained it to me as the local police didn't care if the locals had drugs on them, they were waiting for the tourists to get caught so they could extort money from them.

We still had a great time and I would go back again in a heartbeat if I could. Have fun on your cruise!!

Never been to any of those places, but just be careful on the ship. There have been a rash of people disappearing off of them in the past year.
