    Life in Edmonton

Thought I'd change this up for us northerners.

    Dear Diary:

    September 30th:
Just moved to Edmonton, Alberta...Now this is a city that knows how to live!!
Beautiful sunny days and tolerably cool evenings. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying in a sleeping bag. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

    October 14th:
Really cooling down. Got down to 35 today. Not a problem. Live in a well heated home, drive a well heated car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a winter sun worshipper.

    October 31st:
Got the trees in the yard ready for winter today. Straw bed for all the garden plants and around the cedars. Watered everything down really good before putting the hoses away for winter.

    November 30th:
The temperature hasn't been above 0 all week. How do people get used to this kind of cold? At least it's not windy though. But getting used to the dry cold is taking longer that I expected.

    Decmber 15th:
Shovelled the driveway for 3 hours today. (Got frost bite on both feet and my nose.) Missed 2 days of work, what a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got learn to dress better for the cold.

    December 20th:
I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning.
By the time I got to the cold car for lunch, Morgan had frozen to death, but not before puking his breakfast all over the $2,000 leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like frozen Kibbles and Bits. No more pets in this cold.

    December 25th:
The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking deep freeze!! And it's cold as the freaking North Pole. The furnace is on the fritz and the repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. Merry freaking Christmas!!

    December 30th:
Been sleeping beside the wood stove 3 nights now. Darn water pipes are in danger of freezing. Hope the heat tape holds up. Why did I ever come here?

    Jan. 4th:
It's -40 degrees. Finally got the furnace fixed today. It cost $500 and we finally can sleep in our beds again. Stupid repairman peed on my daughters snowman. I hate this stupid city.

    Jan. 4th:
If another wise a$$ cracks, "Cold enough for you today?", I'm going to tear his throat out. By the time I get to work the heater is barely blowing warm air, my gloves are frozen solid, and I smell have frozen boogers in my moustache from my stupid cold!!

    Jan. 9th:
Tried to run some errands after work. Didn't wear my long johns and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my a$$ was frozen to the seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh trying to get the lock unfrozen and grabbing the steel handle on the car door.

    Jan. 10th:
The weather report might as well be a recording. Cold and sunny. Cold and sunny. It's been too cold to do anything for 2 months and the weatherman says it might really cool down next week. Doesn't it ever melt in this barren tundra?? Haven't had any snow to speak of, so $1700 worth of trees and perrennials might freeze up and never come back. Even the northern plants can't live in this cold.

    Jan. 14th:
Welcome to HE77!!! Temperature got to -50 today. Forgot to plug the car in and cracked the engine block in the car. The tow truck came to take it and said, "Cold enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the house payment to bail me out of jail. Freaking Alberta.
